I just came back to Miami from Japan and the difference in how people treat you gave me fucking whiplash.
Service staff in Japan are stupid polite, things are timely, and they go out of their way to be helpful. They manage to run their businesses in an extremely efficient manner.
In Miami they treat you like you’re hassling them for trying to give them business. My 2nd interaction with a TSA lady was her passing my question off to another customer who then got roped into playing translator for us. This is right after the lady in the line next to us waited 20 minutes because no one thought to help her lol. Every time I go out for drinks it’s a constant game of staying on top of your feet to not get scammed by your bartender. I could go on for days.
I know standards for people in America are a little low on average, but how is Miami this much worse than that lol????

I lead sales + customer service for a startup with a team of 6. Our startup converts existing websites into mobile apps for a monthly fee. We have a few customers subscribed, with 50% of these being other startups looking to get mobile-only functions for their business or just expand their audience by being listed on the App Stores.
My question is around growth strategies:
- We are thinking of offering a 'launch' program for brand-new startups where the team uses their background in web development to create a website to launch an MVP. The catch here would be that the new startup also signs up for our mobile app subscription for at least 12 months.
Do you think that is a legitimate market to target? Or if they haven't launched a website yet themselves do they lack the drive to turn their MVP into a business, meaning we would likely lose them as a customer after the minimum sign-up period?
Do you think that 12 months as a minimum sign-up is too restrictive? We need to get some return for helping launch a website + 2 apps but I don't want to promote the program if everyone here thought 12 months was way too long.

I'm in Canada and I'm wondering if there are cases here I can use to convey worst case scenarios to the owner. We're not evading our own taxes, but there's an employee who they pay outside the payroll system through the company bank account, and no tax is deducted from the employee. The employee definitely isn't a subcontractor or business since there's no business number and no invoice.
The employee has never paid a dime in taxes and the employer hasn't paid its share of CPP and EI on that employee. Can something like this result in a seizure of assets by CRA and is there a precedent for this? Any other examples of bad scenarios that I can show my employer to knock some sense into them?

I had a unicorn situation of a woman who was very upset, upset for a very good reason, and the department that was supposed to make things right wasn't. And because I was on the phone talking to them, they were trying to blow smoke up my ass too. I've got copies of the internal emails, reading straight from those emails, and my reading is being ignored for their fiction they were trying to get me to believe. I say someone in management really needs to take a look at things because the assigned representative is not getting the job done and I heard crickets. I heard crickets a lot that call, before redirecting back to the need to drop the dispute.
They won't refund her money until she drops the credit card dispute. She dropped it three weeks ago. But it's still showing there's a dispute so they won't refund. But she dropped it three weeks ago and internal emails show the assigned representative knows that. Oh, but a second look, there's a counter dispute and the money won't be refunded until the counter dispute is resolved. Counter dispute to what??? The dispute was dropped three weeks ago. How can you counter when there is no dispute? Well the counter dispute is estimated to be resolved and the refund given August 1. Did you guys miss this all started May 4th? Three months of holding onto her money, when the assigned representative, per internal emails, acknowledges the facts are not disputed, the customer never got towed so she should never have been charged in the first place. And what if the counter dispute is not resolved August 1? Oh, so you will hold the money until it's resolved. And since there's no dispute, what happens if the counter dispute can't be marked as resolved? Crickets again, really?
This was utter bullshit. I was so frustrated that I did something I probably shouldn't have, and if called out I'll claim save the account, but I told her that if someone has AAA we don't push adding emergency road service because it's better than what we offer.
