2023.03.22 17:21 MjolnirPants Jerry and the Apocalypse: Part 54

Part 53
TW: Intense, masochistic sexuality.
Caliope, Clever Little Shit
Caliope sat in the back of the transport, still parked in front of the fancy house somewhere in south LA. Finally, she had her hands cuffed in front of her body, and she could reach her crotch. She dug fingers in her panties and inside of herself, reaching deep, into her posterior fornix. The thrill of stimulation there barely registered, even though it was her favorite spot for a cock or dildo to hit. She was too angry.
She pushed hard, twisting at the cuffs until she fit her entire hand inside of herself, and she could finally reach the scar. It had been there for years, waiting for this exact opportunity.
She dug her fingernails in, the sensitive tissue sending howling signals of pain to her brain, where her own psychology twisted them into signals of pleasure. Blood flowed as she scratched and clawed at herself, but she eventually found what she was looking for. Flesh parted, revealing a small, artificial lump.
She seized in in slippery fingers and pulled it out. It was a tiny handcuff key, with a tiny bit of her own brand of magic stored inside of it, wrapped in layers of cling-wrap. She quickly unwrapped it as blood soaked through her panties and smeared the seat.
She finally got it unwrapped and wasted no time unlocking her handcuffs. The bleeding did not concern her, she knew she would heal rapidly once she was done. She touched the key to the collar around her throat and felt the relief as its magic failed. She quickly used the sharpened tooth on the key to saw through the strap of the collar.
Her own magic filled her, and she let some of it turn to healing. She turned some more into physical strength. Then she checked the doors.
Locked, of course. The DCM was not known for ignoring non-magical security measures. She saw the two officers moving towards her vehicle, and decided that violence was the way to go. She placed her hands in her lap and waited.
They climbed in and started the vehicle.
"Listen," the driver said. "Here's how this works. You don't give us any problems, we don't give you any problems, okay?"
She nodded. "I understand," she said. "No problems."
"Good. We're probably gonna hit a drive-thru on the way. You can get something if you're hungry," the passenger said. Caliope nodded. "Thank you," she said, demurely. A drive-thru would be the perfect time to strike.
She sat in the back quietly as they drove her north. Around Anaheim, they pulled into a Jack in the Box, stopping in front of the menu. "Figure out what you want," the passenger said, turning to face her. "It's my treat."
Caliope smiled at him. He smiled back, then turned to face forward, and that's when Caliope struck.
She felt like she'd gotten a raw deal, the last time. She had never really gotten the chance to fight, except when she faced off with that psycho lunatic who'd surprised her and beaten her to within an inch of her life before she even understood what was happening. She had been training to fight for years and years, and yet when the time came, she managed to catch the guy who was, according to everything she understood, out standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the gods themselves.
But these two, they were former soldiers or cops. Not demigods, not magical beings of immense power.
She surged forward and grabbed the driver by the head, digging fingers into his eye sockets. The man let loose a howl that brought a smile to her face as she blinded him and slammed his head against the seat rest. She brought her feet up and wedged them against the back of his seat even as the passenger spun, a can of paper spray coming up. She ignored him, even as the magical shield triggered by the can popped into place on the man's face and tried -unsuccessfully, thanks to her fingers- to form over the driver's face.
The man let loose and the liquid splattered her face, immediately causing an intense burning sensation. She shuddered as the pain made her cum and redoubled her efforts. With magically enhanced strength, it didn't take long to bend the headrest back, hyperextending the man's neck. His struggles abruptly stopped as she felt something pop in his body and he slumped against her.
The passenger had apparently realized that the pepper spray was just this side of worthless and drawn his sidearm. He thrust it towards he, and she had just enough time to duck her head and seize his wrist before it went off.
The sound was deafening in the enclosed space. Caliope's ears rang as she squeezed the man's wrist and slammed it into his own headrest. He reached back with his free hand and grabbed a handful of her hair, yanking forward and slamming her face into the back of his seat. She felt her nose break and another orgasm swept through her as she grabbed the hand holding her head.
She slammed his wrist again and again, and finally he dropped the gun. She tried to catch it, but missed and it clattered to the floor. She reached down for it, but the man's grip on her hair kept her from it. She strained against him, reaching for the gun.
His right hand vanished, then she felt a heavy impact in her side. She glanced down to see the man drawing the four-inch blade of a combat knife out of her ribs. The impact began to throb and burn as she whipped her head around and warded his knife off with one hand, still straining for the gun with the other.
The knife darted and slashed, opening her arm in two places. She brushed the gun with her fingertips, shifting it. Caliope sucked in a deep breath, ignoring the burning in her side and her arm that made her want to touch herself, and yanked down hard on the hand holding her hair. Her scalp erupted into more burning as he yanked a large clump of hair out by the roots, but she could now reach the gun.
She picked it up and pressed it to the back of the seat, squeezing the trigger until the slide locked back. The guard slumped, his hands going limp. He dropped the knife into the foot well.
Caliope leaned back and gave in to the urge that had been with her ever since the pepper spray struck her. She wiped her face, wetting her hands and then stuck them both in her panties, coming immediately as her vulva began to burn. She played with herself for several minutes, until she couldn't afford to remain here any longer. Someone in the restaurant or the buildings nearby would have heard the gunshots and the local police might be on the way already.
She grabbed the driver and hauled him into the back, then climbed up to the driver's seat. She put the vehicle, still idling, back into drive and spun it around, pulling back out of the parking lot.
She glanced at the body next to her. "You don't give me any trouble, I won't give you any trouble," she said with a grin.
----
A few miles later, she pulled into a mostly empty parking lot in front of a strip mall. She turned onto the road as she reached over and patted the pockets of the dead guard. She found his cellphone in his pants pocket and pulled it out. She used his phone to unlock it, and opened the web browser, typing in a URL that she knew by heart. It took a second to load, and when it did, it immediately loaded a chat room.
U there? she typed and hit send. She waited.
Less than ten seconds passed before the indicator that someone was typing flashed on. A few seconds after that, a new message appeared.
Waiting on u, it said. Caliope grinned.
I no where theres guns an shit, Caliope typed, pausing to check the history of the vehicle's on-board GPS. in san clemente. im in anaheim rn
The typing icon appeared, cycled through its animation and vanished.
Coming there where r u? the chat read. Caliope's grin widened. She hit back on the GPS until it showed her current location, giving the intersection at the top.
Euclid st n katelia ave, in a car w dcm stickers by the arbys
A second later, the icon appeared and then vanished before it could animate.
Omw, the chat read.
Caliope turned and wrestled the other guard's body into the back, then got out and opened the rear hatch. She found raincoats, rifles, a shotgun and assorted gear, mostly tools that would be useful in a rescue situation. She grabbed a raincoat and a blanket and the closed it up.
She threw the blanket over the bodies in the back, then stripped out of her bloody clothes and threw the raincoat on. It was translucent, but she didn't care. She checked their pockets and then the center console of the vehicle, finding a few bills in their wallets and a mass of change in the center console. She took it and walked into a laundromat that was part of the strip mall.
She washed her clothes, smiling at the men who kept sneaking peeks at her body through the raincoat. After they came out of the dryer, she stripped right there and pulled them on. Two of the younger men cheered for her when she pulled the raincoat off.
She left and went to sit in the driver's seat of the DCM vehicle. She waited for another thirty minutes, until a beat-up old Toyota pulled into the spot next to her, and her sister and two men climbed out.
She rolled down the window. "Hulks or ninjas?" she asked the two men. Both sneered at her. "Hulks," one of them said, sounding offended. She smiled. "Good. There's only four guards left to watch the place until the cops come. If we hurry, this should be easy."
----
"Griselda, are you done?" Caliope asked, sticking her head into the kitchen. Griselda sat there, in front of the last survivor of their assault on Garcia's home. He was slumped over, insensate, the hand she had duct-taped to the table by the wrist flayed open to expose muscle and tendons.
Griselda pouted at her sister. "He fainted," she said.
"We're all geared up," Caliope told her. "We're ready to decide what to do."
Griselda stood. She picked up a sewing needle from the table and jammed it into the man's shoulder as she passed him by, but he didn't react. He really was out cold.
The two hulks, Johnny and Bob, stood in the living room, next to the shimmering portal.
"So where we going? We splitting up, or sticking together?" Bob asked.
"Well," Griselda said. "We don't really have any money. Just a couple hundred bucks. And we're on the run, so we need money."
"These guns are worth a pretty penny," Johnny said, hefting a shotgun. Caliope shook her head. "They're not worth enough for us to split up and vanish, the way we need to."
"Duke told us what to do," Bob pointed out.
"He goes by 'Dylan' now," Griselda told him, glancing at Caliope for confirmation. She nodded.
"He did, but the question is whether we want to work for him again," Caliope said.
"I don't give a shit who I work for, as long as I get paid," Johnny said.
"Duke was always good about making sure we got paid," Bob agreed.
Caliope was less sure. She looked at her sister, who shrugged. "Why not?" Griselda asked. "I mean, it's right there. The dead world. We don't even have to look for it, it's right in front of us."
Caliope nodded. Finding the dead world had always been the 'tricky part' of Duke-er, Dylan's emergency plan. But there it was, right through that portal. With that problem solved, the idea of teaming back up with their old boss was a bit more appealing.
"Fuck it," Caliope said. Griselda grinned at her. "Let's go."
They all walked through the portal, checking behind them to make sure the way back was still there as they emerged onto a concrete road, surrounded by concrete buildings and dried-out corpses. It was, the dark ritual room a shocking contrast to the midday sun around them.
"Okay, now which way?" Johnny asked after they'd all walked through. As if in response, a thunderous roar sounded from off in the distance.
"Towards the monster," Caliope said. Griselda took her hand, digging her nails in, making Caliope whimper. She slipped a hand down the back of her sister's pants and slipped a finger into her ass, wiggling it. They smiled at each and turned to share a deep kiss for a moment before they took off, following the two men.
They trudged through the city for over an hour, not seeing any sign of whatever had done the roaring. Caliope noted the bodies and made a game of trying to guess what they'd been doing when they died. She soon roped Griselda into it, and they began guessing out loud. Before too long, Johnny and Bob joined in.
"Those two were fucking, for sure," Johnny said, pointing to a pair of corpses, one piled on the other.
"With their pants on?" Caliope asked skeptically.
"Fine, but those two were definitely fucking," Bob said, stopping and pointing down an alley. Caliope looked, and sure enough, another pair of corpses were piled there. The one on top had pants around its ankles, and the one on the bottom had a skirt that was hiked up.
They all stopped to laugh at that pair, killed in the middle of their tryst.
Johnny walked over and began messing with the corpses before throwing his head back and laughing. Griselda crouched down next to him, then began to giggle and raised the man's hand to slap her palm against it.
"What?" Caliope asked?
"She's got a toy in her asshole, and the dude is still inside her," Johnny explained, wiping tears from his eyes. Caliope grinned. "Adventurous," she quipped.
"Jesus," Bob said, checking it out for himself. "How fucking jaded do you gotta be to have to get your rocks off by getting DPed in public?"
Griselda jabbed him in the ribs, hard. "Don't mock people's kinks," she said.
Bob turned a look on her. "Oh, you like getting DPed in public? Maybe Johnny and I could help you out a bit," he said. Caliope noted a certain gleam in his eyes and decided to speak up.
"How could you do that, Bob, after my sister cuts your dick off?"
"Heh," Bob chuffed, straightening up. "I know you two have your tricks, but I wouldn't need to get big to toss you both around like rag dolls. Trust me, if I decide to fuck you, I'm gonna fuck you."
"Jesus fuck," Johnny objected. "Shut the fuck up, Bob. If you try to rape one of them, I'll help them beat the shit out of you. We've got more important shit to worry about, right now."
Caliope nodded in agreement. She was beginning to like Johnny. He had that big, blonde gringo thing going for him, and he seemed to have a good head on his shoulders.
"Johnny's right, Bob," she said. "And we can target our silence, you know. We could stop you from getting big, while letting him."
Bob laughed, though she detected a tinge of nerve in his tone. "You guys are way too uptight. Can't even tell when you're being fucked with."
"Well, let's stop fucking around," Caliope said. "In fact, we should stop talking, so we can hear if anything's approaching. I'd hate for whatever made that roar to catch us flat footed, talking about whose dick is going in whose asshole."
"My dick," Griselda said, "Goes in everyone's asshole." She stood and brushed sand off her pants, walking away from the fateful lovers.
Johnny joined her, leaving Bob to trail behind as they set off again.
They walked the rest of the afternoon in silence. As the sun set, they stopped to confer about what to do, deciding to stop in an intact building. They had Bob go out and gather grass and leaves and crumbling sticks to make a fire with, and then they heated up some of the camp food they'd found.
After eating, they cleared spaces on the floor and set up their sleeping bags, then went to sleep.
Caliope waited until she could hear three voices snoring before she climbed out of her bag. She stripped down to nothing and walked out of the building. The night sky looked different, she thought. The stars were different and the milky way was thicker and less bright.
She found the bench she'd spotted on their way in. It had small, sharp looking fins protruding from the arms which had caught her eye. She placed a leg on the seat and lowered herself, grinding her hips back and forth. The fins tore at the skin of her vulva, the tugging, burning pain making her body tingle. Blood dripped onto the rusty metal, and she wondered idly if she'd get tetanus from it.
The idea excited her. It was suppose to be a painful condition.
She didn't hear the footsteps approaching over her own whimpers and gasps. She didn't know anyone was behind her until she felt a pair of large hands grab her hips.
She spun, expecting to see Bob there, but it was Johnny. She smiled, seeing him.
"You want to help?" she asked.
"I'm not sure I can, now... You're all torn up," he said. She looked down to see the blood in her pubic hair and on the bench's arm.
"I heal," she said. "Like Dylan used to. It's part of the magic."
"Wish they'd given us that part," Johnny said. He leaned forward and brushed his lips against hers. She nipped at his upper lip, making him pull back. "Don't bite," he said.
"How else do I get you to bite back?" she asked playfully. She ground herself against the bench again, feeling the slight pop as each fin caught and then came loose of her flesh.
"Ask nicely," Johnny said.
Caliope grinned, then contorted her face into a parody of pleading. "Please bite me," she whispered. Johnny eyed her skeptically for a moment, then suddenly dipped his head and sank his teeth into her neck. She gasped as he did and moaned.
"Harder," she whispered. His teeth clamped down more.
"Harder," she murmured. She felt the sudden release of tension as he broke the skin.
"Harder," she said. He let go, and she could see blood on his lips. He lifted her up and bit down on one of her nipples, and the heat of an orgasm swept her mind away for a moment. When she regained her senses, she cried "Harder!"
He flipped her around and dropped her onto the arm of the bench. It jabbed painfully into her stomach and ripped skin at the tips of each fin. She came again, shuddering as Johnny pressed one hand down on her back. She felt him roughly shove a finger into her ass, followed by a second, making her moan.
As she felt his knuckles slip inside of her, another pair of hands, smaller and softer, grabbed her head and pushed it down, smacking her cheek against the backrest. Caliope caught a glimpse of her sister between the metal bars and grinned. Nobody could hurt her quite like Griselda.
"Here," Griselda said. "Let me show you what she likes."
Caliope melted away in an ocean of delicious agony.
----
Bob seemed oblivious to what he had missed out on the next morning. Caliope moved slowly, not because any injuries lingered, but because a slight ache remained low in her stomach, and she wanted to savor it.
Johnny managed to avoid getting clingy, which Caliope appreciated. Too many men thought that fucking her meant they were now a couple of some sort, and that she needed catering to. Johnny didn't care. He packed his own bag quickly and then started the fire up again and began cooking, never so much as offering to help either of the sisters with their stuff.
They got packed up, then got some food, and then set off. Caliope was beginning to worry that they might be moving in the wrong direction, but they had no other clues to tell them where to go.
It was shortly after noon, and they had left the city, moved through a small suburb and out into the dead countryside when she heard voices. She brought a hand up, then turned and pressed a finger to her lips. Everybody crouched down, Johnny and Bob readying their guns.
The voices were getting closer, coming from the left side of the road. Caliope crept into the dead trees as quietly as she could, until she could see a break and the shine of another concrete road.
Eventually, they clarified, and Caliope could hear what they were saying.
"It's not that," one voice said, a woman's voice. "All things considered, especially with how fucking promiscuous he is, I don't really care about you two fucking. I care about him. He's been my friend for a while, and he's in a bad place."
"I did not initiate it," a second woman's voice said. "I know what he's going through. I don't want to do anything that would hurt him worse than he's already hurting."
"See, that's the thing," the first voice said. "I don't know that's true. Let me be clear, okay? I don't trust you. I know where you come from, and while I believe that you are your own person, with your own goals and whatever, I know that all of... You, comes from her. And the reason I came here is because I want her dead. I want her to die in agony, and you're a part of her."
"I am not her."
"I believe you. My concern is how much like her you are."
"Are we just going to talk about how little you trust me the whole day?"
"Nope!" the first voice said brightly. "I was just wrapping up. So if you do anything, and I mean anything, that I could possibly see as a betrayal, I'll cut your arms and legs off, stop you from healing, and feed you to Shadow."
"I understand," the second voice said coldly.
"I knew you would," said the first voice as two figured came around a bend on the other road. Both were young women, maybe in their mid twenties. One had jet-black hair with blonde roots pulled back into a ponytail, and was dressed in black tactical gear with goth makeup on. The other also had black hair, but it was longer and let free to fall down her back. She wore body armor over a t-shirt and gray cargo pants. The goth one carried a rifle, and the way her arm was casually draped over the stock suggested that she was very familiar with it.
Caliope froze, knowing that the slightest sound might draw their attention. She crossed her fingers, hoping the others wouldn't give away their presence, either. The two women walked, silent now, down the road, heading in the same direction they were moving in.
She watched them pass. When they vanished, she waited a minute or two to be sure before she returned to find the others gone.
She didn't have long to wonder where they'd gone, though. A moment after she got there, while she was still deciding which way they must have gone, the dead bushes rustled and began to shed leaves. Griselda and the two hulks appeared.
"Why'd you hide?" Caliope asked.
"There was a dude flying around," Johnny said.
"It was him," Griselda hissed, her face a mask of anger.
"The guy from the TV show," Bob added, though Caliope already knew who her sister was referring to. "The one that led the attack on the compound."
"Shit," Caliope cursed.
"What are we going to do?" Griselda demanded. Caliope held up a hand, demanding time to think.
After a moment, she gave voice to her thoughts.
"He has to be with the two I saw. At some point, he's got to land. If we follow them, we could get the jump on them."
Griselda's angry look turned into an eager grin. "I want him, after we kill the other two."
"Shit," Bob said. "If the other two are hot, I want one of them."
"So we'll kill one and capture two," Johnny said. "You recognize these fuckers, what do we have to deal with?"
"Nothing important," Caliope said. "Nothing dangerous, at least not once my sister and I take away their magic."
They all shared in Griselda's eager look, then.

2023.03.22 17:21 oclemensopia Choosing a private school

(I've looked for posts like this on this subreddit but couldn't find much outside public school advice.)
We are considering moving to Duluth and are looking at private schools in your lovely city. My daughter is 5, so she would be entering kindergarten this fall. We are going to the open house for Marshall's forest school; would you recommend Marshall? I would prefer to keep my kids in the same school as they grow up. I also have a baby.
Does anyone know anything about Stella Maris Academy? We're Catholic. What types of kids/ families go to these schools? I'll take some brutally honest answers if need be. And are there public options that you feel are better than the private ones?
Thanks a bunch

2023.03.22 17:20 AgreeableEmploy1884 Where is everyone?

It all started a month ago on 16/02/2023. I woke up on 8:30 as usual, i brushed my teeth, and dressed up to go to work. While i was preparing a quick breakfast, i noticed something off outside. There were a few military trucks and jeeps passing through the street. Normally i would brush this off as something normal however the nearest military base that i know of is 150 kilometers away. Still, i ignored it. Ate my breakfast and entered my car to go to work.
While on the road i decided to listen to some music and opened the radio. Usually there was cheerful music or the weather broadcast on the radio however, it was just static. Weird, i thought to myself. The radio channels here rarely went down.
I parked in the parking lot of the building i worked in and just as i entered the elevator i got a text message. It was from my boss telling everyone that work was cancelled. "Finally i can rest for a little bit." i said to myself before entering my car.
As i was driving on the road i was driving 15 minutes ago, i saw what i thought was another military convoy in the distance. This whole day felt off. Still i could be overreacting and that could be the same convoy that i saw earlier. While i was driving i saw a few military guys setting up perimeters around the town entrance in the distance. I started getting really creeped out. What was going on?
I parked my car on the driveway of my house and headed inside. I decided to watch tv since there was nothing else to do. While i was watching a documentary about cryptids i accidentally changed the channel to the news broadcast. I was bored so i deciced not to change it back and nothing caught my attention until i heard the broadcaster say: "There have been reports of heavy military activity around the Mainland United States, these reports are mainly from rural areas such as suburban towns and small villages. A video sent to us shows a few soldiers putting up barricades blocking access to the entrance of a national park and the video ends with a soldier stopping the person from recording the video. The government has not made a public statement about the situation yet."
As the broadcast ended, i heard a knock on my door. When i opened it i saw a person dressed in military tactical gear wearing a gas mask. Before i could ask what was going on, they said:
"Stay indoors if possible, there has been a gas leak in the nearby area. Do NOT exit your house after 6pm, a curfew was placed to keep citizens safe. Close your curtains after 6pm."
And before i could ask anything, they pushed me back and closed the door before i could even get up. I didnt understand the last part, why would we need to close the curtains if it was a gas leak? Still, even tho it sounded like bullshit i decided to listen to the "soldier" that knocked on my door.
This was the night it all went to hell. I woke up on 2:33 AM to gunshot and explosion sounds outside. I was too scared to get out of the bed. I heard someone yelling "ANOTHER ONE! SHOOT IT QUICKLY BEFORE IT CAN DO ANYTHING!" and a few gunshots after that. I didnt sleep after that, i stayed in my bed motionless for the whole night until 9 am. The sounds stopped at 4 AM but i didnt have the courage to get out of bed.
After i shakily got out of bed i peeked out the window to see, a bloodbath. There were alot of heavy machine guns dropped on the asphalt and a lot of dead bodies, i think they were soldiers. I blocked the door with a huge table while i desperately tried to call 911 to no avail. The phone lines were down or there was noone to pick it up. I remembered that i had a few cameras installed around my house so i reluctantly went to check the footage out. What i saw, made my blood run cold. I could see a few people in tactical gear shooting someone or something offscreen. Then i saw it, there was a huge claw type limb reaching out from the forest grabbing the soldiers head and squishing it like it was a balloon. I couldnt continue watching it.
I stayed in the house for the next 19 days until i ran out water. While i was inside, i couldnt hear anything from the outside. No people, no cars, not even birds chirping. When i decided to go out to get some water, i grabbed my M9 pistol with me incase something was out there. I ran to my car as fast i could thinking something was going to grab but, there was nothing. While i was driving to the store i saw cars flipped over, and a few houses destroyed. I expected there to be people and soldiers in the downtown area but there was noone. Not even a dead body. However i did see alot of abandoned cars. When i got to the store, just like the downtown area there wasnt anybody in it. The streets were devoid of people. Either all the people were inside or they somehow disappeared. There were no signs of those thing i saw in the camera either. It was like every living being just disappeared into thin air. I grabbed as much water and food as i can and ran back to my car.
As i was driving in the "abandoned" city, i had an idea. I could check to see if people were inside hiding somewhere. So i grabbed my M9 pistol that i brought with me and went to the first house that i saw. The door was unlocked. I slowly entered the house to find nobody inside. The bathroom door was locked so i tried to kick the door down and i somehow did. There was something written on the wall with blood, the blood seemed relatively fresh. The writing said "cover windows after sunfall". What the fuck was going on? I searched a few more houses to find no people. Not even animals. I drove back to my home and barricaded all the windows with what i could find. I had food and water that would last me for weeks. After the sun set i could hear this weird type of buzzing sound outside. I didnt have the courage to check the camera to see what it was. After 6:34 AM, the noises stopped.
After the noises stopped, i decided to drive to the downtown area to see if there were any signs of people or any animals. I checked a few houses but there was nothing. One of the houses seemed to be inhabited very recently, there were empty bottles of water and a few cans of food on the floor but no sign of a person.
After i got back home i found an old radio that was still working and i decided to see if there was anything on the radio. The only thing i got was a weird beeping sound, there were 3 short beeps and 3 longer ones after that, and at the end were 3 more shorter beeps playing on loop. I think it was morse code, i am not sure.
I do not know why i am writing this, since i could be the last living thing on the planet except for those fucking things that killed everyone. If someone is somehow reading this, i am in the town of Swindmore in Iowa. I will be at the town centre everyday at 9 AM. Those fucking things killed off the entire town or possible even the whole world, the last television broadcast was 4 days before the electricty cut off and it was about serial disappearences all over Europe and North America. I will be at the town centre everyday at 9 AM, if i am not there i have probably died. 22/03/2023.

What You Get Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date. This is an onboarding module that will get you up to speed so we can get straight into the material. This will be required to finish before the start date.
  • Gain a deep understanding of all of the pieces in the digital economy.
  • Learn about the future of media and code — the front-end and backend of the internet — so you can focus your efforts.
  • Understand digital leverage, distribution, no-code tools, and digital assets so you can take part in the mental & financial wealth transfer.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with *what will sell.*You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity.
  • Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
  • Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
  • Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).
Phase 2) Content Strategy There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. **That they are congruent with and trust.**It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is:
  • Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
  • Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
  • Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
  • Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
  • Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.
Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level (no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works.
  • Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
  • Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
  • Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
  • Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.
Phase 4) Marketing Strategy You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
  • Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
  • Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
  • Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.
Bonus) The Creator Command Center The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales. Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan.***And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days.***That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work.

2023.03.22 17:18 nicoisnotemo decisions....

Hai, I'm a senior in highschool and 1st gen so I'm hella new to all this and seeking out some advice.
I got rejected from UCD but accepted into UCSC and a bunch of CSU's. I've just gotten my financial award notifs from every school I've applied too, and I'm tied between UCSC or Chico State (since their percentage of finacial aid proposed is in the same price range.)
Pros (or Reasons) for UCSC: -love the campus and I focus better being away from the city -astronomy program that I'd like to minor in (majoring in comp. eng.) -close to silicon valley and being able to network -i just really like the vibe tbh🧍🏽‍♂️
Cons: -Housing crisis -Santa Cruz tax 😬 -going in blind, alone
Pros (or Reasons) for Chico: -affordable community -able to move into off campus easily with friends (who just want to move out, but not go to college) -respectable engineering department
Cons for Chico: -no astronomy programs -smaller campus -even FARTHER away from the bay, or anyone I know
help a homie out!!!

2023.03.22 17:17 francescalinetti Are you planning to visit Medellin and looking for affordable options to explore nearby towns?

You're in luck! I gotta say Medellin has changed a lot since the 80's and the old generalized idea of it being a crime city has been left behind. Today, it's a bustling city that offers a wide range of activities and attractions for tourists. In recent years, Medellin has become a popular destination for travelers from all over the world since the city is known for its year-round spring-like weather, beautiful parks, friendly people, and delicious food.
The transformation of Medellin has been remarkable. The city has gone from being known as the most dangerous city in the world to becoming a model for urban transformation. In 2013, Medellin was named the "most innovative city" in the world by the Wall Street Journal. And let me tell you, the city has invested heavily in infrastructure, public spaces, and education, which has made it a hub for culture, business, and tourism.
But did you know that Medellin is also a great base to explore nearby towns and engage in local activities? One of the best things about Medellin is its affordability. You can find cheap accommodation and food easily, making it an excellent option for budget travelers. By taking advantage of the city's affordable prices, you can explore nearby towns without breaking the bank.
For example, you can visit Guatape, a really beautiful town located about two hours away from Medellin. It's known for its colorful houses, beautiful lakes, and stunning views from the top of the famous El Peñol rock. You can also try traditional Colombian food in the town's restaurants and immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting the town's markets.
Another option is Jardin, a charming town located about three hours away from Medellin. It's known for its coffee plantations, beautiful parks, and stunning waterfalls. Additionally, a short bus ride from Medellin will take you to the beautiful town of Santa Fe de Antioquia. Here, you can stroll through the cobblestone streets, admire the colonial architecture, and enjoy the local cuisine.
Off course some of the stories about Medellin’s sordid nightlife might be true, I’d say this is something most tourist cities can’t escape from, but if you’re truly interested in exploring the bright side of Colombia’s culture and discovering new places, I hope this perspective of mine helps you make informed decisions and at least interests you in doing some more research about it. Have you been to Medellín before? How was your experience?

2023.03.22 17:16 Playbackfromwayback Warning- referrals and collecting your fees

Hello everyone.
I’ve been a realtor for 23 years and have sent out tons of referrals - and me being me- i just trusted the text messages back and forth with the realtor in Texas i referred a softball trust sale listing to.
Stupid me, i didn’t follow up and she quietly listed and closed the home, and has refused to pay the 20% referral fee she committed to.
It’s such a bummer to get stiffed on this, and she’s an agent in my same brand even. I’m considering blowing up social with reviews but I’m in business myself.
I guess i just wanted to let everyone know- if you send a referral make sure to get the signed agreement from the agent and follow up every step of the way.
Sad that we have to be so aggressive. If anyone is referring in the Dallas Fort Worth area and wants to know her name and brokerage, message me. She has a big following and is active- I’m a grudge holder and will never forget this.
By the way, the entire referral was based on a $275,000 house and would have been about $1000. Incredible to burn another agent over this really small amount money but here we are.
Lesson learned.

2023.03.22 17:15 reverendfrazer What would you do in this situation?

We had a hard cut-off in the last session kind of in the midst of a lot of chaos. I have a general idea of where I'm taking this but I'm curious what someone else would do.
Eustace, Frances, Myrtle, Nedda, and Ziva: if you happen across this post, stop reading or I will do something unsavory to your character.
Preface: drawing a lot from the Alexandrian remix.
The party has just gone through the Gralhund Villa raid. They decided to disguise themselves as Gralhund servants. They arrived while Urstul and his Zhents were already inside, killing guards. They intervened, all the Zhents (including Urstul) and all the Gralhund guards ended up dead. Yalah Gralhund tried to send the Stone off with the nimblewright, but the party managed to intercept it before it left the house.
At the same time, Jarlaxle's team (led by Fel'rekt, they had the Villa under surveillance the last day or two because the party inadvertently tipped off Jarlaxle to the existence and location of the Stone) made their move given the state of the Villa at the time. Some combat ensued between the Bregan D'aerthe and Hrabbaz (the last remaining Gralhund combatant), but this was about the time the City Watch arrived at the Villa.
Where we left off is: City Watch is streaming in through the front gate, the Bregan D'aerthe had a couple sentinels posted around the block so they were forewarned and moved quickly back across the roof to escape around the back side of the Villa, and simultaneously the party (still disguised as servants) moved to escape via a window in the back with the Stone in their possession. As they come out onto the street, they're met by the Bregan D'aerthe who stop them at gunpoint.
My query is: how do you think Fel'rekt and co. would treat this situation? They failed to obtain the Stone, though I'm not entirely sure Jarlaxle fully realizes (at this point at least) what the Stone is, just that it's valuable. Would it make sense for the Bregan D'aerthe team to just cut their losses and release the servants, particularly because the City Watch will be upon them in a matter of minutes or even seconds? Or would he attempt to detain and bring the party with? Fel'rekt currently has no reason to believe these "servants" possess the Stone, and they didn't manage to see (in the chaos) that the nimblewright was taken down in the Villa (though I suppose if they're quick thinkers they would realize something is wrong, they knew the nimblewright had something and would notice that it didn't make it out of the Villa). But again, this is a decision that Fel'rekt will need to make very quickly given the situation with the Watch just on the other side of the Villa grounds. My worry is that the party will resist, a fight will break out (one that the party would ultimately lose, I think they know this but i'm not sure their PCs would care), but maybe a round or two in the Watch will be on them.
Appreciate any and all advice!

2023.03.22 17:12 sofa_king_rad Hoping for other perspectives on this criticism of “the woke” by an acquaintance

This is a long post, looking for other perspectives, I totally understand if it isn’t worth someone’s time to read.
I’m acquaintances with this older intellectual, who I really don’t know their politics, but believe they generally are socially and economically progressive, not sure if they are all the way left, or more of a soc dem. He is someone who I know has read a lot of theory and philosophers. At times he’ll make comments that I feel are borderline misogynistic, he acknowledges that he doesn’t have to agree with someone’s ideology around gendegender roles, to support their rights and let them be who they want to be.
He regularly goes on these long rants about “wokeness”, where I feel he is generally referring to what is often referred to as “woke-scolds”, especially those who are authors, professors, people in politics… I think of the over compensating liberal.
I wondered if anyone would read something he recently wrote, someone of which is clipped from a NYT article, to help me consider if I’m misinterpreting him or not. I feel like he is a bit focused in on the woke-scold types and attributing their loudness to the majority, am I misunderstanding, or just wrong?
I have some thoughts specifically to address his NCAA comment as well.
Here is the post:
Among the multitude of reasons I attack Wokeness, apart from its religious irrationality, explicit anti-semitism and implicit racism is that is attacks form and the surface without dealing with genunine issues of structural poverty and homelessness. While every spoiled brat at Yale Law shudders at the possibility of encountering an uncomfortable idea or wants to fire someone for daring to state something obvioiusly true but at odds with their dogma, there are genuine issues of criminality and social upheaval that threatens social order and the sort small business that Wokeness ought to support were they not religious fanatics.
We have serious issues of structural poverty and wealthy stratification. The only fact you can bank on is that religious truth is not the solution. We have a path to solve some of society's ills and it is not the ethnic war of tribal power Wokeness envisions.
"He had been coming into work at the same sandwich shop at the same exact time every weekday morning for the last four decades, but now Joe Faillace, 69, pulled up to Old Station Subs with no idea what to expect. He parked on a street lined with three dozen tents, grabbed his Mace and unlocked the door to his restaurant. The peace sign was still hanging above the entryway. Fake flowers remained undisturbed on every table. He picked up the phone and dialed his wife and business partner, Debbie Faillace, 60.
“All clear,” he said. “Everything looks good.”
“You’re sure? No issues?” she asked. “What’s going on with the neighbors?”
He looked out the window toward Madison Street, which had become the center of one of the largest homeless encampments in the country, with as many as 1,100 people sleeping outdoors. On this February morning, he could see a half-dozen men pressed around a roaring fire. A young woman was lying in the middle of the street, wrapped beneath a canvas advertising banner. A man was weaving down the sidewalk in the direction of Joe’s restaurant with a saw, muttering to himself and then stopping to urinate a dozen feet from Joe’s outdoor tables.
“It’s the usual chaos and suffering,” he told Debbie. “But the restaurant’s still standing.”
That had seemed to them like an open question each morning for the last three years, as an epidemic of unsheltered homelessness began to overwhelm Phoenix and many other major American downtowns. Cities across the West had been transformed by a housing crisis, a mental health crisis and an opioid epidemic, all of which landed at the doorsteps of small businesses already reaching a breaking point because of the pandemic. In Seattle, more than 2,300 businesses had left downtown since the beginning of 2020. A group of fed up small-business owners in Santa Monica, Calif., had hung a banner on the city’s promenade that read: “Santa Monica Is NOT safe. Crime … Depravity … Outdoor mental asylum.” And in Phoenix, where the number of people living on the street had more than tripled since 2016, businesses had begun hiring private security firms to guard their property and lawyers to file a lawsuit against the city for failing to manage “a great humanitarian crisis.”
I then made a comment, less in response to the NYT article, and more to his use of “woke”, that I don’t think he uses “woke” in the same way it is understood colloquially, highlighting a recent survey that 59% of Americans understand “woke” to basically be an awareness of social injustices.
He responded with this:
Cory, I think the way tribal defenders use right criticism to deflect from the serious issues of this tribal populism unfortunate.
I am willing to bet I read more “woke” monographs than you so I am smokier with what it gets right. But you are more comfortable with its implicit racism ( how else would you define antisemitism?), anti-intellectualism, and it’s insistence on doing the greatest harm in the name of protecting the fewest.
We cancel anyone who speaks out. We deny it is cancellation while less than 3 blocks from San Francisco’s modern art museum, where a curator who shared the desire to purchase the works of artists of color but stated the obvious fact that not to purchase any works of white artists would be racism, there is a similar tent city.
Wholeness claims it is about social justice but is it? While woke is composed of affluent elites those it claims to speak reject its policies.
It is mot racial justice to shut down conversations that disagree with your religious dogma. The number 1 NCAA woman’s swimmer is a transitioned woman who sent through puberty as a male. She was ranked 400 when swimming as a male.
I am confident, Cory, you did not read the article. Or you would have read about who supported the existence of tent cities or that the diner’s owners are feeding people in the tent city who are dedicating, urinating, having sex, throwing garbage and threatening anyone walking past.
In Wokedom police are bad but people living in high crime areas want policing. San Francisco recalled one DA and one woke politician who 3 months ago was screaming “ defund the police” is now screaming that the police are not doing their job.
Care to know the number of times a racist woke responded to the evidence that Black women were responsible for Hillary and Biden being the nominee with “ don’t YOU DARE TELL ME ABOUT BLACK WOMEN!!”
Thoughts?

2023.03.22 17:12 Theclaaw Countdown to Kickoff 2023: Portland Thorns FC

Countdown to Kickoff 2023: Portland Thorns FC

🌹🌹🌹 LET'S GET THORNY!! 🌹🌹🌹
You can check out the the original post with links to all other write ups for this year here.
BACKGROUND
Head Coach: Mike Norris
Formerly an assistant coach for the Thorns, Mike Norris took over the team in January of this year following the resignation of last year’s head coach, Rhian Wilkinson who stepped down after only one season. Her resignation came after a joint investigation by the NWSL & NWSLPA regarding a relationship developing with a current player on the team. While the investigation found Wilkinson did not violate league policies, Wilkinson left the team after player urging, regarding the broken trust between the players and Wilkinson, the legitimacy of the reporting/investigation process of the team/league, and potential retaliation amongst other issues.
Norris joined PTFC in 2022 as an assistant head coach under Wilkinson. Most recently, Norris was the goalkeepers coach for the current Olympic champions, the Canadian Women’s National Team, but Norris’s assistant coaching background in women’s soccer is extensive. After starting his coaching career in youth soccer, he quickly moved up through Canadian youth’s national system up to the senior team over the span of 8 years. Most importantly, Norris was hired with the backing of the current players. Expectations are high for Norris. The Thorns are coming off their third championship season with sights set on a repeat performance.
Technical Director: Karina LeBlanc - General Manager
Karina LeBlanc took over the role of General Manager in November of 2021 following a 3 year stint as CONCACAF’s Head of Women’s Soccer. The newly dedicated role in the Thorns' organization came after a separation between the Thorns management from their brother club Portland Timbers FC stemming from the fall out of the 2021 abuse scandal of the league. LeBlanc, a Canadian national team Hall of Famer, was immediately thrown into the mix, managing to make a splash with her first two trades within her first month, securing a substantial amount of allocation money and expansion draft protection. Unfortunately, LeBlanc stumbled a bit in her first NWSL draft, using her first pick on a player that was never signed by the club (due to transphobic/anti-LGBTQ+ social media posts). In just over a year, LeBlanc appears to be a breath of fresh air in the recent tumultuous years of the club. Just like head coach Mike Norris, there are high expectations for LeBlanc (honestly though, not protecting a known abuser would instantly shoot LeBlanc up to the best GM in Thorns history).
Captain: Chrstine Sinclair
Synonymous with Portland women’s soccer and needing no introduction, the Canadian GOAT Christine Sinclair has been the Thorn’s captain since the start of the league in 2013. While several players have worn the armband in Sinc’s absence, the captaincy is Sinc’s and truly Sinc’s alone.
Stadium: Providence Park, Soccer City, USA
Arguably one of the most iconic professional soccer stadiums in the US, Providence Park has played host to the Thorns since they joined the league in 2013. Located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood in Southwest Portland, the recently renovated stadium is home to both PTFC teams and can host over 25,000 fans.
Ownership: To Be Determined
I am not going to waste time talking about the Thorns' current owner; in no way does he deserve any more publicity and in mine, and I’m sure many others’ opinion, should not be allowed to own a club in the league. Thankfully, in December of 2022, it was announced the Thorns would be up for sale. While this could potentially hinder both the Thorns & Timbers’ mantra of “Two Teams, One Club”, the future is bright for the Thorns. Right after the announcement of the sale, it was reported that an all-women investment group led by Nike executive Melanie Strong was looking to submit a bid with a valuation of $60 million.
Mascot: N/A
While there is no mascot for the club, the prominence of roses can be seen throughout the club, including on merch, within the supporters section, and even awarded to players after home matches.
Kits: We’ve Got Some Mixed Opinions
The Thorns have had some really great kits in past years. However, the kits unveiled in 2022 really missed the mark. One comment pointed out that the 2022 kits looked as if someone took the 2021 kits and remade them in MS Paint. Switching to black kits the previous year, Portland’s primary kits kept with the theme of a black base with the inclusion of red vines/thorns. A nice little easter egg, the acronym dear to the PTFC supporters, BAON, is included within the neck tag (a feature added to the kits starting in 2020).
The secondary kits didn’t fare much better. The club kept with the primary colors of white and red, but other than that, not much else can be said about them.
2023 brings about a fun new kit for our Ed Hardy fans out there (at least we can say they didn’t play it safe???). The Thorns wanted to go bold and that they did. With an updated logo on the shorts, they definitely stand out.
Supporters Groups: The Rose City Riveters
Housed in the North End of Providence Park, the Rose City Riveters are a wild bunch of supporters. You can check out their Instagram or Twitter. The group provides plenty of volunteer opportunities, charity drives, and are never shy in supporting what they believe in. The Riveters are loud and proud (NSFW - language), creating one of the best sporting environments in the league. Very biased, but they also create some of the best TIFOs and banners; since I love a good TIFO/banner, here are few of my recent favorites:
Subreddit: /Thorns
The Thorns subreddit is probably above average in activity compared to other clubs. You’ll get the biggest news, fun social media posts, and the occasional hyped upvote party (we like excitement). Drop by to show your support!
News and Commentary: Stumptown Footy & Riveting!
Stumptown Footy & Riveting! are the two publications that you will constantly find Thorns-centric coverage & commentary. While STF is currently going through the SB Nation cuts of all soccer coverage, they still plan on continuing coverage of soccer in Portland. Both are great for not just coverage, but opinions on the Thorns & the league.

2022 Season Review
Three Stars!!! ⭐⭐⭐
The Portland Thorns were your 2022 NWSL League Champions! As any other season in Portland, the Thorns came in with high expectations following their Shield win in 2021, but their upset loss in the semi-finals to Chicago. Portland went into the pre-season Challenge cup in the West Division finishing 3-1-2, but missed out on advancing to the knockout stage to defend their Challenge Cup championship. The Thorns started off the regular season a little sluggish, going 1-3-1 in their first five games, falling all the way to 7th in the standings. Thankfully, they quickly hit their stride, going on a 10 game unbeaten streak. Following back to back thrashings from NCC & SD, the Thorns went on to not drop a match for the rest of the season. They ended the season with a record of 10-9-3 and a goal differential of +25! The race for the shield at the end of the season was wild, with Portland being in control of their own destiny, but couldn’t get it done, ultimately falling short by 1 point to OL Reign.
Focusing on the on-field storylines, there is one name that was the star of the show: Sophia Smith. Coming into her 3rd season in the league, Smith took off (for club and country)! Racking up 14 goals with 3 assists which lead to 3 Player of the Week nominations (1 win), a Player of the Month award, 2nd in the race for the Golden Boot, NWSL Championship Game MVP, and ultimately being crowned the 2022 NWSL MVP. Nothing could stop Sophia Smith last season and hopefully this is just the beginning for her.
Smith was not the only Thorns player to really step it up this year. Continuing on with the nickname of Goalkeeper FC (shout out the magical Thorns GKer coach Nadine Angerer), starting goalkeeper Bella Bixby tied for the most clean sheets in the league with 9 (10 if you include the playoffs). Rookie Sam Coffey made an immediate impact in the midfield, switching to a DM position and being an anchor our midfield needed. The Thorns also had 1 iron woman in 2022, defender Kelli Hubly who really solidified her starting role going forward (over an injured Emily Menges). Last, but not least, one of the biggest stories of the season: the return of Crystal Dunn! After giving birth to her very adorable son Marcel in May, Dunn returned to the pitch less than 4 months later. And who could forget Dunn’s game winner to send Portland to the championship?

ROSTER
Preseason Roster
Thorns return 23 players from their 2022 season and added 3 new players through the NWSL Draft.
Goalkeepers (3): Bella Bixby, Shelby Hogan, Lauren Kozal (DRAFT)
Defenders (9): Kelli Hubly, Meghan Klingenberg, Natalia Kuikka (INTL), Tegan McGrady, Emily Menges, Meaghan Nally, Gabby Provenzano, Reyna Reyes (DRAFT), Becky Sauerbrunn
Midfielders (7): Sam Coffey, Crystal Dunn, Olivia Moultrie, Taylor Porter, Rocky Rodríguez, Christine Sinclair, Hina Sugita (INTL)
Forwards (7): Janine Beckie, Natalie Beckman, Hannah Betfort, Izzy D’Aquila (DRAFT), Sophia Smith, Michele Vasconcelos, Morgan Weaver
Predicted Preferred Gameday XI
Formation: A bit unknown what the formation will be this year with a new head coach, but the Thorns primarily ran a 4-3-3 last year. It’s going to be an interesting discussion to see how Norris handles where Sinclair goes. While I respect the Canadian GOAT, I believe Sinc would be best used as a super sub. Depending how Norris handles where Sinclair goes, there is going to be some variation within our midfield & forwards group. Predicting Sinc remaining in our starting line up, I would expect to see some form of our starting XI looking something like:
-------------------Bixby-------------------
-Kuikka----Hubly----Sauerbrunn----Klingenberg-
----Rodriguez----Coffey----Dunn----
----Smith----Sinclair----Weaver----
Likely Top Bench/Subs:
  • Emily Menges, D
  • Hina Sugita, MF
  • Janine Beckie, F (sike :( )
  • Izzy D’Aquila, F
  • Olivia Moultrie, M (again, Moultrie’s use is really going to depend on what Norris plans on. Moultrie was ramping up in minutes on the back half of the season last year. As of today, Moultrie is in the Starting XI for the Thorns first preseason match)
Returning Players (Almost Everyone):
GK: Bella Bixby, Shelby Hogan
D: Kelli Hubly, Meghan Klingenberg, Natalia Kuikka, Tegan McGrady, Emily Menges, Meaghan Nally, Gabby Provenzano, Becky Sauerbrunn
M: Sam Coffey, Crystal Dunn, Olivia Moultrie, Taylor Porter, Rocky Rodríguez, Christine Sinclair, Hina Sugita
F: Janine Beckie, Natalie Beckman, Hannah Betfort, Sophia Smith, Michele Vasconcelos, Morgan Weaver
The Vets
Almost every Thorns player is a veteran with the team at this point. The vets below are those who have been around the block a time or two in this league:
D: Klingenberg, Menges, Sauerbrunn
M: Dunn, Rodríguez, Sinclair
Something to Prove
  • Kelli Hubly (D) - Being the Thorns only iron woman is a feat in itself, but until the 2021 season, Hubly hadn’t been a consistent starter. With an aging backline, it will be seen if Hubly can continue on the upward trajectory in being that anchor of our backline
  • Sam Coffey (M) - Year 1 for Coffey went about as good as one could wish for. Like Hubly, Coffey’s “prove it” is if she can continue to be as good as she was last year, proving that year 1 wasn’t just a fluke (I don’t think anyone thinks this is the case though). If she isn’t called in for the World Cup (a long shot at making it at the moment), Coffey is going to be a key piece for the Thorns.
  • Olivia Moultrie (M) - The Child. (Can we even call her that anymore?). Moultrie & co. fought hard to allow her to play for the Thorns which led to massive changes in how the league handles U18 players. That said, Moultrie hasn’t really consistently shown that she’s as good as they said she was. A lot of it is due to playing time, it came sporadically and at times, playing only the last few minutes of the match. However, Moultrie has shown flashes of brilliance when she was in. She’s not afraid to be physical and she has the confidence to take her shot.
  • Christine Sinclaire (M) - Does Sinc really have to prove anything at this point in her career? No. However, we are unfortunately heading towards the end of Sinc’s career here. The big question is, how will she handle it? This will be Portland’s 3rd coach in 3 years and while the Thorns are far from rebuilding, it is yet to be seen where Sinc will fall in Norris’s game planning. However it shakes out to be, I have a feeling we will see Sinc be what Sinc always is, the GOAT.
Out for the season
So far, Portland is looking good as far as the SEI list (knock on wood). Jinxed myself on this one. Unfortunately, Janine Beckie went down in the preseason friendly against the U23 NT with an ACL tear. The biggest missing piece will once again be Lindsey Horan. Leaving at the start of last season, Horan left big shoes to fill. She will continue to be out until at least June (the end of her loan), but we most likely won’t see her return until after the World Cup. Fortunately for the Thorns, they do not lack depth in their midfield.
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario: 1st Place
The Thorns are returning almost the entirety of their championship team. And while they do have a new coach, Norris was there during the Thorns’ championship run. Expectations for the club will be higher than ever with the possibility of the Thorns going back to back a very realistic goal.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario: 5-7th place
The league is only getting better. While the Thorns did not lose any key players, many clubs right below them gained quite a few. Five different clubs were all within 4 points of each other at the end of the season. The 3 teams right below Portland were San Diego, Houston, and Kansas City. I won’t repeat what’s already been said in these write ups about those 3 teams, but the Thorns could’ve easily been 5th last year as they could’ve been 1st. Looking further back, you have a team like ACFC who should be returning many injured starters and could easily project themselves forward in the standings. The World Cup is going to be especially hard on the Thorns who will look to have ~7 players out which includes 5 potential starters. I don’t expect to see Portland drop out of the playoff picture, but the middle to back half of the season could get very interesting.
Realistic Most Probable Scenario: 2nd-4th
While the Thorns didn’t make any flashy trades or free agent signings, they stuck with what they know worked. Sophia Smith really hit her stride last year and is going to be looked upon to continue her dominance this year. The return of Lindsey Horan (if healthy) in the back half should really give us a push late into the season. Portland returns a team of veterans that know what it takes to win. Can they repeat the success of their 2022 season? We’re going to have to find out.

2023.03.22 17:08 FireingUp1029 High Accumulated Vested Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) Selling / De-concentration Strategy Tips?

Hi - curious others in this community would approach the fact I have vested stock in my company (a public company) worth ~$1.6M and a lot of my NW (15%). I've accumulated a lot of it over 10 years of working there, and candidly I've been emotionally attached to selling in case of 'mistiming' the sale.
Always thinking "ah maybe it'll go a little higher soon, next earnings report", etc. or "wait to realize capital gains until _maybe_ we move out of New York City which has high NY state tax + local city tax". Our marginal tax brackets are Fed: 37%/20% LTCG, NY State: 6.85%, Local: 3.9%.
Until recently, waiting has paid off, but it's really too much concentration considering I'm still accumulating more each month/year from working at the company.
There's about 150 individual sub-lots of shares given the monthly vesting. Some of the long term gains date back from 2012-2015 and the losses are from 2021 and Jan/Feb 2022 when the stock was ~40% higher, rough year in 2022 like many companies.
SummaryTotal position $1.6M
Any thoughts for how / when / under what conditions to liquidate this in order to diversify?

2023.03.22 17:05 UsedBowl8839 Rollercoaster Fatfire journey, need advice.

39M, 16M NW fully liquid, but have made some of the worst investment decisions ever so that my IRR over the past 10 years is negative.
Have gained lot of perspective from discussions here.
Need some advice but first some context.
Got laid off job at 29. Was earning around 200k +options back then. Had just invested 400k all cash deal in a house back in home country as investment.
So at 30, I was without a job and 90% of my savings locked illiquid. The real estate firm went bankrupt. Not a single brick laid till date. Depression set in. Round one.
Tried looking for a job for 6 months but started reading on the side and got fascinated with a topic in public policy (negative effects of big tech). Over the next 2 years, worked on a book. Launched it at the age of 32. Wife's job kept us going but just about in VHCOL city.
Book became a bestseller and has crossed 1M copies now. Been on the speaking circuit 2015-19. Speaking fees started at early five figures and went close to 6 figures per speech just before covid.
Earning by year 2013: 0 2014: insignificant (5 figures) 2015: 1M 2016: 2.5M 2017: 3M 2018: 3.2M 2019: 3.9M
Covid happened and speaking circuit evaporated overnight. Went into identity crisis for 5 months. Round two.
Hadn't had time to invest till now because of breakneck growth. I know cash is trash but I was traveling 200 days a year on the speaking circuit.
Around mid of 2020, speaking still dried up but started seeing people make millions in the market.
Panicked about not having invested all these years. Jumped into the market. Bought 100k worth of index funds but they were growing at 10% while switching were growing 10x.
Fomo + greed set in. I had to make up for years of idle cash.
Long story short, I had put in 5M into stocks by Nov 2021. This had grown to 9M (huge positions in Asana, Snow, Zm, Tsla, Rblx etc). I kept on pumping but just held waiting for party to continue. I felt I had found my second act. Everything was turning to gold. That has today fallen to 1.8M. Everything from COIN to OPEN. No diversification. Didn't exit anything because, well, buy and hold.
Went into depression for a few months. Round three.
Got my act together early 2022. Decided to reinvent from traveling keynote speaker to remote consultant and boards. Helps spend more time with the kid. Built a huge network from speaking days and personal brand + continuing book sales help.
Income since covid 2020: 500K (Big drop compared to previous years) 2021: 1M 2022: 4M (with new board + consultant model)
Finally started going more into index funds 2022 onwards but still in the red with that as well.
I'm trying to get my act together now. Need some advice here (and perhaps just some psychological help)
  1. I have always loved what I do and still do. So plan to still continue. But I can't get over the money I lost in the market which I may never recover. Also cant forgive myself for not investing all those years. But I was too scared to lose everything again the way I did.with my real estate investment. Wanted peace of mind through principal protection.
Essentially I have been the worst investor over the past decade. How do I forgive myself for that? I sit up nights sometime thinking about where I could have reached had I just done indexfunds.
  1. How do I invest now? Yes cash was trash, but its giving me 4-5% now while my stocks are a lost cause. How do I start diversifying with around 10+M cash still available and adding 200-300k every month to it.
  2. I'm not interested in RE. But the fear of losing it all again like I did at 30 keeps coming back especially after losing money on shit stocks in 2021. How do I fix that?
  3. I still can't spend freely without counting even for sub 100 dollar amounts because I keep blaming myself for the money lost.
Essentially, how have you guys got over bad money decisions? And what should I do going forward to get it right?
Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks for listening.

What You Get

Phase 0) Digital Economics 101

The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date.

Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche

Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with what will sell. You already have the answer.

Phase 2) Content Strategy

There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. That they are congruent with and trust. It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable.

Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer

Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them).

Phase 4) Marketing Strategy

You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple promotions. You will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
  • Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
  • Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
  • Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.

Bonus) The Creator Command Center

The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales.

Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch

In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan. And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days. That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work.

2023.03.22 17:05 DashingGoodlooks Deck with Moonlight + Sunshine as Link for TV?

Hope this question hasn't been answered here before, but I didn't have much luck with the search bar. Like many others, I just ordered a 256 Gb deck during the sale and am planning to set up moonlight and sunshine to stream from my desktop setup, along with running games on the deck itself. The consensus seems to be that the newest version of sunshine and moonlight work pretty well when streaming to the deck.
So I'm curious - Is it possible to run games on PC at higher resolution than the deck screen supports (1080 or 4k), and pass through the deck to play on the big screen at high resolution without moving the tower to another floor? Most guides I've seen focus on setting the resolution to match the deck screen. I haven't really seen this talked about here, but feel like it would be a great use of the deck for those of us that don't want to move the PC to other rooms for a session on the couch/tv. Most conversations about using the deck docked with tv don't really mention this, and it seems like most moonlight threads focus on using it to play non steam games. I'm curious what people's experience is like if this is possible.

2023.03.22 17:03 AggressiveMath1 3 months of losing the house bidding war - what to do?

Looking for advice from the more experienced nova people here!
My wife and I moved here after getting married, and we're finally sick of our 1 bedroom apartment, looking to start a family somewhere a bit further away from the city. No strong house preferences other than it not being an apartment, and wanting a few bedrooms + more than one bathroom.
Holy hell, this market is insane. We've looked at hundreds of places online, been to dozens of open houses with lines stretched outside, put in about eight different offers (all over asking)...then were beaten by people offering 30-40k over ours, cash, and waiving all contingencies.
At this point we're not sure what to do. We've slowly expanded our geographic range to include areas of "lower" demand like Sterling, but it's a similar story out that way too! Offering even higher than we have is possible, but then I'm cautious of pricing us out of our own neighborhood. We really wanted to move before summer...I fear that's not enough time for the market to relax. Anyone else seeing this, any thoughts?

2023.03.22 17:02 Electrical_Ad_3214 My (23M) gf (22F) love bombed for months then blocked me yesterday and said she’s done.

I’m at a loss. Is this common in relationships? We hit it off really well at the start and dated for about 5 months. Everything was seemingly perfect. She came across as smart, considerate, sweet. She’s a babysitter to these two sweet kids that I met along the process and grew to love as I would come over the house and cook and play games with them. During that time this woman introduced me to her entire family, best friends, we spent holidays together. She says I was the first to have ever been introduced to her family.
She is from Kenya as well, so I understand that meeting family is a big deal. Everything was going seemingly well, with her texting “I love you” every single day, writing me letters, flowers, with her even mentioning marriage & kids first. I always made sure to return her energy - followed her lead every step of the way. Was so emotionally (and even financially) invested. Even got an apartment in her city to be closer.
She is a full time student with 2 years left of studies, and I was also busy traveling a lot. I did notice she was busy at points and always told her I completely understood. I noticed she seemed more tired and not as present, and she sensed I knew something felt off. But I told her I understood she was probably overwhelmed and didn’t need to worry. Then the very next day she calls me saying she “doesn’t think she’s capable of loving me the same” and that “she can’t give me the love that I deserve”.
Then proceeds to say “I really liked you but I don’t think I was ever in love with you. I know it’s fucked up and it’s nothing you did or could’ve done. I’m extremely confused myself and honestly will need some deep soul searching.”
I was at a loss, and asked if she was sure about this and if I would need to move on, but she was crying and bawling her eyes out so much saying she “had no idea” and “couldn’t give me an answer right now”
Obviously I questioned her on everything and asked if the dates and moments we experienced were ever real to her. She then says “the moments were great but we experienced them on different levels.”
How am I supposed to interpret this?
I felt stuck waiting to hear her answer and tried to allow her space to “reflect” but wasn’t sure on how to proceed. I kept thinking “Should I wait to hear this answer or leave? Do women do this often? Why go so far to deceive me if she truly never meant it? Unless it’s just a phase that I’m unaware of…
Things did heat up fast I would say. But I felt pushed further because she would suddenly say things like “I see you being the father of my children” and then also writing these really romantic letters saying how much she loved me and how special of a love that I gave, etc. She would sometimes send videos of people growing old together saying that this was us.
Although, I do think immaturity is a big part of it actually, that makes sense. I returned her energy because although it was a lot, I felt I had really strong feelings for her and realized how much I wanted to be with her - so even if it was soon, I wasn’t opposed to the ideas at all.
As for how I was financially invested, was because we were kind of long distance in a way and I had to pay to travel to see her. I was pushed to get the apartment because her best friend was having suicidal thoughts and she said she really needed me there more than ever. She pushed me to make that move and really directed me to doing so about 3 months into our relationship.
As of yesterday she decided to block me on everything. It was strange because we decided to kind of leave space but I couldn’t sense how she was feeling throughout it (no texts or communication). We had planned a trip together while we were dating that was still upcoming and she had a final come up and wasn’t able to make it. I decided to still go on my own even though it was originally supposed to be for us together.
I didn’t know whether to continue to leave her space so when I came to town and didn’t tell her, there was this anger from her in me not telling her, which was strange because she insisted on leaving space. I just started noticing that her requests and expectations would sometimes be vague or very confusing.
She told all of her friends (that I met through her) about the breakup and the friends all called me directly to check on how I was holding up - but later she got mad at this saying I crossed the boundary by getting her friends involved - when she was the one that told them we broke up.
Her final message was that I couldn’t respect her boundaries with her friends, and her space, and that she “never looked at me the same ever since I accused her of deceiving me or using me for my emotional and financial investment” and she didn’t even allow me an opportunity to talk in my own defense. Which to me was strange out of all the times I listened to her side of things after she basically said to me she never loved me.
So now she’s completely cut contact and I’m totally at a loss. I’m pretty much guessing her friends might be also thinking this is weird behavior. I’m not sure what to make of this… what am I supposed to do now?
TL;DR Me (23M) and my girlfriend (22F) had a seemingly amazing relationship and then she suddenly pulled away crying and confused. Then the tears slowly turned to feeling sad for hurting me to somehow resentment (me being the bad guy) and she had a complete sudden change of heart.

Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them).

What You Get

Phase 0) Digital Economics 101

The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date.

Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche

Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with what will sell. You already have the answer.
