No real world experience, nobody to help, no ideas, but want to start a business.
Hi everybody,
I (27M) want to start a business but do not know where to start at all. I dropped out of college at 20, where I was studying Hotel and Restaurant management. Reason for dropping out was to help my older brother run his nail salon. He recently sold the shop and abandoned me. Doing nails since I was 17, has burned me out and I want to jump into something else. Problem is I have no skills outside of nails, and no other interests with no one to help. I have been on buy BizBuySell to get an idea of the many businesses out there, but they all seem intimidating.
Any advice is appreciated!

2023.05.29 03:19 ThePermafrost Businesses For Sale / Partnership Investment

After many years I’ve finally closed out my Real Estate portfolio and I’m looking to focus on building a business as my next passion project. Maybe you or someone you know has a small home business that could grow with a capital investment, or if you know of more established service oriented or retail businesses around Hartford County looking to sell or for a partnership investor?
Budget of $500k available.
I’ve tried BizBuySell and Loopnet, but it appears to almost exclusively be restaurants or Liquor stores - industries I wouldn’t want to enter.
Thanks CT!

2023.04.30 01:48 Antigon0000 How to start a Spa business?

My girlfriend and I want to start a Spa business. She's had successful small businesses in the past that created items and sold them. She hasn't had a business that sells a service on location such as a spa.
We would want to purchase land with a building on it. Ideally with a pool or the room to install one. We have lots of great ideas and motivation. But no clear way forward.
How do we get funding? We're not millionaires. Thousands of people start their first business all the time. How do they get funding? I've read Bizbuysell, so I'm aware of financing via the seller, but we can't find an existing business that can support what we want for under a million bucks.
What do you recommend? Where can we start? Resources and personal advice and anecdotes are welcome! Thanks all

2023.04.26 05:47 ploopey owner wants to sell to an ACTIVE new owner

I'm looking to find a business to buy on bizbuysell and am noticing that some owners are requiring new owners to be active owners in the business. I'm wondering if anyone on here has encountered sellers like this, or are sellers like this themselves? I'm mostly curious why they would care how the new owner chose to run the business once they sold it?

2023.04.11 23:13 innovatekit I used Python to make a BizBuySell web scraper to get businesses for sale in a given state. I used aiohttp to fetch requests asynchronously. The code has a rate limiter as well!

Hey friends! Back again with another python web scraping project.
A founder reached out to me to know if it was possible to scrape BizBuySell for businesses for sale in a specific state. They needed the data for business development. I never scraped this site so I was up for a new challenge.
At first I ran into issues with bot blocking. They use Akamai CDN. However, with a bit more research, I managed to get the data. The site was not too difficult compared to others. No dynamic javascript which means no need to use selenium. I only fetched the first 12 pages to keep the demo short. Happy to answer any web scraping questions.

2023.04.04 00:55 chubbs069 BizBuySell opinions

I’m new here and I’m in the market to start investing in and owning a business. My first stop was BizBuySell, just to see what types of business are available. My question is are the quotes and figures on this site calculated or imputed by the seller (cash flow, gross revenue etc)?
Obviously tons of research and my own do diligence is necessary before making any moves. But I’m curious how much I should initially rely on these (and other posted) figures.
Thank you

2023.03.31 04:10 Steelstrike309 In the market for a small business

Not necessarily looking for turnkey. The options on BizBuySell are… not my favorite. What other public business markets are worth exploring when trying to buy a business?

2023.03.30 22:25 Aggravating_Truck132 Does this sound too good to be true?

https://www.bizbuysell.com/Business-Opportunity/high-volume-cold-stone-creamery-and-tim-hortons-w-drive-thru-findlay-oh/2037352/?d=L29oaW8vZmluZGxheS1idXNpbmVzc2VzLWZvci1zYWxlLz9xPWJIUTlNekFzTkRBc09EQSUzRA==
There is a combination Coldstone/Tim Hortons in my area - but I struggle to believe the cashflow is $140k when the asking price is only $475k... does that seem reasonable to you more experience SB owners?
I see this guidance online "Food businesses: 1.5 to 3.0 (i.e., cash flow x 1.5-3.0 multiple)" so I suppose by that logic $475k is actually about $50k higher than the upper threshold.

2023.03.21 01:51 sunnyceee Business idea: Curated Newsletter with Businesses for Sale

$7 trillion of Baby Boomer businesses will be sold by 2030. - u/SMB_Attorney
The next 7 years will be a massive wealth-generating opportunity for Millennials.
Why? Because baby boomers will retire and sell their businesses, giving Millennials the opportunity to buy them.
But instead of actually buying these businesses, how can we cash in on this trend?
The idea: Create a newsletter that curates local businesses for sale.
The product is simple.
Find businesses for sale in a specific town or city, put them in a Newsletter, and build your email list.
How to get started: There’s a few ways you can source the businesses, but the easiest will be websites like bizbuysell.com or loopnet.com.
You can also search sites like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to find smaller businesses for sale.
Finding subscribers for the Newsletter will be the biggest challenge, but here’s a few ideas to get your first few subscribers:
  1. Post the newsletter in local Facebook groups or Subreddits.
  2. Attend local small business meet-ups and ask people if you can add them to your newsletter.
  3. Cold email local business brokers and ask if you can add them and their clients to your list.
How to monetize: There are three ways you can look at monetizing this Newsletter:
  1. Premium membership: Subscribers pay a monthly fee to be on the list and get premium listings sent to them.
  2. Ads: Businesses and brokers can pay you for an advertisement in the newsletter.
  3. Commission model: This can work if you are able to build a relationship with local brokers and negotiate a commission for buyers or sellers you send them.
This is a lucrative industry that will only grow in the coming years and there’s never been a better time to start than now.
And that’s a wrap!

2023.03.02 01:57 expertoflittle Are there any online business marketplace success stories?

I’ve recently discovered businesses like Flippa and BizBuySell and I love browsing all of the companies. I’ve recently been interested in putting aside some of the money I’d otherwise spend on sneakers and Doordash to buy some cash flow, but the process is so intimidating. Any tips, tricks, or case studies?

2023.02.14 00:42 loveoflearning Best person to help with the process of vetting and buying a business on bizbuysell?

Hey all, I'm starting to look for a brick and mortar biz to purchase on bizbuysell and am unsure what professional I should reach out to to help me with the process.
Originally I was just going to start reaching out to seller brokers myself but I have heard about problems with sellers supplying incorrect financials and hiding information.
Would getting a business lawyer be a good choice to help steer me? I can see needing to have someone at help me with the following:
Originally I thought maybe I just needed a broker of my own, but after talking with one she mentioned she would charge several 10s of thousands of dollars. This seemed excessive since the seller already had a broker and I have been finding the businesses myself on bizbuysell and just need someone to help guide me a bit.
Thanks
