Now they would have a unique resource and unit in town centers chiefs and order.Order is made in Pat ta Pat stadiums (which also make gold and made by chiefs) and lost in humongous military build up near a town center. If all order dies in a town it revolts and villagers take the town center and attack military units in the area and kill the chief.Other than that normal. In Age 2 no horse units but in blacksmith Age 3 research to make infantry 15%
faster. In war-hut upgrades and the Archer plus the handed ram a more powerful ram but weaker hit points and can carry less
soldiers.In age 3 get upgrades and the skull soldier an all purpose powerful unit and the sacrificial temple a castle and a temple hybrid which makes sacrifical priests and can sacrifice villagers and others for 166% of there original cost. Get the university an age early with no chemistry. In Age 4 the university gives all unique research and the ability to put resources into the building to get weak calvary and hand cannoneers. please comment my rating on civ 1 to 5 stars

the history begins during ESB when the rebels are evacuating the echo base, luke gets early to his Xwing and left the planet at the same time that the millenium falcon, and he talks with han and leia, han ask him if he has a place to hide and luke told him about dagobath so they decide to follow luke, since the falcon hyper driver wasn't working, and they needed a place to hide they decide to follow luke since no one of then did actually know about dagobath they would assume the empire doesn't know about this planeywhen they arrive, they also crash in the swamp both the falcon and the xwing, and they do a camp near the swamp.
in there yoda would appear and like in those comics of star wars infinities han would deduces yoda was playing the old crazy guy to test lukein this timeline lets say yoda decides to for once break the rule of that a master can't have more than 2 apprentice and because they needed to defeat palpatine at first leia would learn faster since she is more patient Leia would probably have been a much more effective Jedi apprentice, even with that luke would manage to keep up with her, in this timeline the relation ship with han and leia would still deplovement, as the team were trap in the swamp until luke or leia has the skill enough to lift the xwing and the falcon, yoda eventually would reveal to luke and leia that they both are brothers (but not revealing yet about vader is their father) so this would be a funny situation about the kiss in hoth, since they weren't captured at cloud city, they wouldn't have rush to get out the planet.
after a year of training i think luke and leia would be equal in terms of force skills, and dueling and would be enough to fight vader and emperor, this luke would be way more patient than the one we know and more skilled, and were ready to one of his final test, and will enter to the dagobath cave, and facing their biggest fears without nothing rather than they selfs together,after that test, yoda would reveal about vader being their father. for leia it would be a hard reveal, same to luke but leia would seem more afected by this, luke would still belive there is still good on him after that and that yoda pass away, now what would be next, for endor battle

Green armor boxes: Are they of any significant value? I have so many and I don't feel like I need them. What do I do with them?
Caphras stones: I hear these are the real currency of the game. I haven't spent any. I guess they are used to upgrade items which I have not attempted to do yet. Are there any other crystal or stone like items I should be holding on to? I have kept anything that looked important.
Rotation grinding: Why should I care? If a place is busy I will just go somewhere else. If was there first I will keep doing my thing.
Horse and Sailing skills: The more you ride or sail the more you develop your skill which means you unlock abilities to make you go faster. Is there anything to do here besides Celerity Potions or Mount Exp Scrolls and sail/ride around?
Expanding worker empire relies on contribution points: You need more housing for workers which requires more Contribution Points. You need to quest in order to get more Contribution Points. If you want an expansive network of workers you need to quest for Contribution Points I assume.
Alchemy: What is the benefit of doing Alchemy? I assume there has to be something of interest here. I just buy potions but really haven't needed them too often lately. Also the skill add-on options allow for healing capability if you plan on taking damage.

| Hey y'all! I figured this would be the place to both admire this beauty that we purchased recently as well as best guess the weight of it. It's an old horse trailer that we are now using as a serving trailer (could go camping in er if need be! Large enough for am inflatable mattress on the floor, has a sink for water, some shelves for storage and solar panels to charge our phones, have lights etc). The insides were gutted. Large steel floor got replaced with wood flooring, horse ramp and separator got removed. Essentially, I don't live anywhere close to a weigh station, and am in the market for a new truck so I'm trying to best guess what the trailer actually weighs. I recently purchased a 10,000 lumen flashlight to illuminate the surrounding woods as I walk my dog in the evenings. I have been hearing some strange noises at night, and I figured it would be nice to see everything that boxes me in as I walk Max, my dog. But boy was I wrong. I should have been afraid of what can't be seen outside the veils of my iphone flashlight. What was to be exhumed by my flashlight terrified me to my core. This happened a week or so ago, November, 2nd 2022, Harrison Michigan. The evenings were approaching abruptly now. It was only 8:30pm when I decided to take my golden retriever on one last shit walk before I got settled in for the night. At this time, in rural Michigan at least, it’s pitch black. I cursed underneath my breath as I opened the door and peered out. Fuck, chilly and dark. God, why haven’t I moved south yet? Max was timid this evening, which was so really unlike him. Very strange. The darkness emanating from outside my house poured in like a disease. It was void of any color. Upset about not replacing my porch light, I pulled out my new amazon special, this week it was a 10,000 lumen flashlight. Feeling its expensive metallic body in my hands felt exonerating, and the excitement to use it overthrew any bad vibes Max was giving. He whimpered as soon as the door opened, he then put his tail between his legs and shivered. I scoffed at his weak tendencies here, this was so unlike him. I turned this ungodly bright flashlight on and showed it forward. “For fuck sake look Max, nothing to be afraid of y-” I was cut off. My mouth gaped at what was in front of me. Shown in the powerful beam of the flashlight was a contorted lanky humanoid figure. It slumped down from a standing position and got on all fours like a person miming a frog. Then it jerked its head up and sniffed the air. Animistically. It turned its head and bored its stare right into my eyes. Then it darted into a bush on the edge of the woods. The edge of the woods that surround my entire house. I heard leaves crackle and watched the skin colored creature dissipate into them. I focused the beam of my light directly onto that bush. It was incredibly bright and the bush appeared like high definition from the immense light, especially in contrast to the oily blackness that surrounded me. The bush shaked ominously, like a predator was inside, shifting around. A familiar feminine voice came from that bush. “Please help me… oh god please help… help… help mee…” And the leaves rustled again. Max whimpered in terror and got between my legs. I grabbed the baseball bat that I kept beside the front door for just such occasions and held it beside my head in a “ready to whoop” gesture, the other hand on my flashlight. I shakily started towards the bush from my door. Max bolted inside, leaving me completely alone. “Helllppppp meee” the voice cooed. The soft feminine coo of the voice crackled a little this time. Yeah, almost as if something was masquerading as a female, and luring me in. I was about 6 feet away by now, I could feel the blood pulsating in my temples. Goosh flesh ran down my body. “Helllpp,” deeper voice “Meeee!” An elongated ashy white arm flung towards me at ankle height. I instinctively stomped down on it. I heard cracking and sloshing from underneath my shoe. I stepped directly onto its wrist. I heard a shriek from inside the depths of that bush and the hand sprung up like a trap being set off. The strength possessed by this creature was unreal, it slung me to the ground and began to reel me into its bush where it resided. I screamed, smacked the arm with the bat as hard as I could and then lost control of the bat. It fell next to me as I was dragged closer to the bush, now my feet were inside the leafy abyss. The voice turned into my mothers voice. The clawed hands grasp on me tightened with tremendous strength and the nails dug into my skin through my pants. “Help me Nathaniel. Your mother needs help. I can't walk.” Yeah alright. I shined my light into the bush. What I saw still makes me tremble. It was my dead mothers face there alright, but atop an ashy white skinned humanoid skeleton with backward joints. The arms bent unnaturally opposite of how they should, the legs were bent like a frogs ready to pounce. The eyes were milky white, but were extremely intelligent and they gazed into my consciousness. With all of my force, I horse kicked my deceased mothers face and heard a massive crunch as my heel connected with her masqueraded nose. A profane yelp of pain blasted into the darkness of this B.F.E. where I lived. The grip on my leg loosened just enough from the blow for me to break free. I shot upright and turned to the door. I dropped my flashlight in this madness and couldn’t give a shit less. It could keep it for all I fucking cared. I bolted towards the door, and as I reached the halfway point I was Illuminated by a blinding bright light from behind. Almost like a spotlight beamed right onto me. My. Fucking. God. That thing had my flashlight and was pointing it directly at me. “Helpp… Nathaniel. Help me son.” The light started to bob up and down. Whatever was holding it was lurking closer and closer to me, and was gaining on me much faster than I was to the door. So much for not being able to walk. I ended up winning the foot race miraculously. I jumped inside my door and slammed it behind me. I heard a loud thump into the door immediately following its closure. My mothers late voice came again, beckoning me. “Son. You know your mother has taught you better than this. Let me in. Please, my son.” The light shone through the window at me, blinding me. Seeing spots and now disoriented, I fumbled myself up and managed to lock the door. Max was at the furthest point possible from the door, glaring at the door trembling in fear. Three solid knocks from the top of the door frame. Then the light was gone and I heard a metallic clunk, the thing must have dropped the flashlight on its retreat. The light now was gleaming off a huge tree. I watched a tall skinny humanoid creature with long contorted ligaments jerkily run towards that tree. His legs bent opposite of how our legs do, and same with the arms. Then it bent down in the same erratic way that it moved, and got onto all fours as it approached the tree. It paused a second and peered up the trunk. His head swiftly snapped to my face. Its now black and sunken eyes stared into my soul. I froze in terror as it climbed that trunk, with its face directly bored into me mind you, like squirrel. Scurrying right up it, never leaving contact with my eyes. The light undoubtedly should be blinding his vision, but the sense of intelligence of it knowing my existence was uncanny. Light didnt hurt it. As it ascended it smiled at me, a predatory grin. It disappeared into a purple dot that was still in my vision from when I was blinded by the flashlight. As I moved my head to try to see the creature, I watched tree leaves russell and saw no more of it. Yet. I locked the doors that night and cleaned up Max’s accidents from not going out. At night as I was asleep, I was awoken by my mothers soft voice from right outside the bedroom window. “Let me in Nathaniel..” Then directly following this motherly imitation came a 10,000 lumen flashlight beamed into my face. I heard the window slowly open, but I was blinded by the light.

Hey folks, adding to the slew of gear questions with all the summer sales going on. Hope to make this one straightforward and information-filled in hopes I might get a decent response.
About me:
Just ended my first season in about a decade after moving out to Colorado. Snowboarded about 15 days in my life before that, but grew up skateboarding and surfing daily, so that helped a bit. Started my season with a Salomon Assassin that I got from Craigslist. Great board for my first season back, and plan on keeping it for laid back days, tree days, or any bit of park I may (but probably won’t) do. Mostly ride at Copper Mountain & Arapahoe Basin.
Estimated skill level:
I’d wager I’m somewhere in the intermediate camp at the end of the season. Blue runs out here are no brainers and good runs to push myself a little and practice technique. I’m comfortable on black runs, did just fine on the few double blacks I tried. Nothing too crazy though. Not catching any edges, getting more into carving, sending small-medium side hits, starting to go pretty fast (and in control) on groomers. For reference if anybody is familiar with A Basin, I’m typically lapping Lenawee and the Blue/Black side of the Zuma Bowl. Totally willing to be told I’m not intermediate based on this, or that what I’m looking for is too much board for me.
Riding style:
- I’m not really interested in park, but hunt for side hits on the trail. -Not really a switch rider, so looking for a directional board.
- Starting to go faster and make solid carves, so looking for something more stable, but would like to still make some slashes and retain some maneuverability
- Mostly ride groomed runs, but want to be able to deal with choppy snow better and go a bit off piste more.
- I ride in trees just a little bit, but current board is great for those quick turns.
What I’m looking for:
- Likely a directional board.
- Something a little stiffer and more stable at speed than what I have. But not too tough to maneuver. -Something I can use on a decent powder day.
- Good for carving. Quick edge to edge is great but I realize I’m asking for stability.
- Solid pop + landing pad for side hits.
- Decent butterability is a plus but not important.
- Probably around 6-8 in stiffness.
- in the All Mountain / Freeride camp
- Basically, a do everything except park board
- Not really interested in volume shifted boards but could be convinced.
I’m currently looking at: - Jones Frontier or Stratos - Capita Mercury - Burton Deep Thinker - Ride Algorythm
What else should I be considering? Anything here that doesn’t fit?

TL;DR Has anyone experienced intermittent "judder" or jerking with the 2022 Rogue Turbo while driving at very low speeds? The issue happens more often than not. Is this normal or should I take my car to the dealer? I have a 2022 Rogue SV AWD, which I bought new fifteen months ago. Lately it's been shaking when driving at low speeds, at least some times; it's a little inconsistent but at this point is happening more often than not. Basically, it feels like the car is moving backwards for a split second. It happens mostly when I'm accelerating from a stop especially when I need to accelerate slowly bc of traffic, and also when the car is moving at very low speeds. If I'm in a parking lot or in stop and go traffic and trying to move 10 MPH the car will consistently jerk back and forth at varying intervals of time. Believe this has happened a few times when accelerating at faster speeds as well, say while on a hill, but need to confirm that; primarily an issue when driving at around 7-14 MPH.
A second issue is that it seems to be very bumpy, but not when driving on the highway; like sometimes the road will look completely smooth but it feels like the road is very bumpy. This seems to happen when I'm driving in town, at say 15-35 MPH. When I bought the car a year ago, it was very very smooth. This might be normal and I'm just noticing it more but it would make sense that it could be related to the issue above. Both of these seem to be the "judder" caused by the Nissan JATCO CVT transmission even though this car is supposed to have the updated JATCO CVT-X which uses a chain instead of a belt and has 30% less friction apparently; in theory, it should reduce the judder issue because you have less heat being generated. This link from Nissan for a previous Rogue (and similar bulletins exist for other Nissan vehicles with CVT) says: "The customer reports a transmission judder (shake, shudder, single or multiple bumps or vibration)."

Finally, when I'm on the highway, it seems like at least sometimes I have to push the accelerator more than I should for the car to accelerate. I've read similar issues online so it's possible I'm imagining this. But what happened today was more serious and freaked me out: I was in a slow moving lane (possibly 35 but probably 45 MPH) and tried to accelerate to safely switch lanes; the car in the lane over was definitely going faster but I had ample distance, so I switched lanes and immediately accelerated. Eventually, I was FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL and desperately waiting for what felt like two or three seconds for my car to move faster, so the car behind me wouldn't have to hit their brakes (which they either did or almost had to). I've heard there is a thing called "turbo lag" but is it actually this bad? If I'm already driving 45 MPH I don't see why flooring the gas pedal should take two or three seconds for the car to drive faster. It's basic physics: the car is already moving so there is much less friction. FWIW, I was driving the car in Auto mode, which is how I always drive; ECO mode IMHO on this car isn't safe bc there are times when you need that extra power like merging onto a freeway and the acceleration on ECO mode is very slow. Also, I don't think I was experiencing "Limp Mode" and I wasn't using ProPilot Assist so it's not a cruise control safety feature. I try to drive safely and usually don't accelerate when changing lanes as much as today, so maybe this is normal and I just haven't experienced this before. But in the past, I've had decent acceleration on the highway without depressing the pedal nearly as much; by the time I was flooring it I would have expected the vehicle to be going very fast very quickly, since the car was already going 45 MPH. It was basically accelerating at a snail's pace or at least felt that way.
From everything described here, it seems like an issue but I'm hesitating to take it to the dealer for two reasons:
- I'm a recent college graduate and this is my first car. I've heard horror stories about dealers ripping people off and while I take it to the dealer for maintenance, I'm a little concerned that they might charge an exorbitant diagnostics fee which I would need to pay if the problem was deemed normal.
- I've recently tried to use the brake as little as possible when parking, meaning holding the accelerator at very low speeds. I don't think this is the case, but could this be normal for the Turbo engine and/or Nissan CVT? Specifically the first issue: That you can't drive at very low speeds without the car shuddering/shaking back and forth. Is there anyway this is normal because you can't push the accelerator very slowly on these vehicles? It could also be an ECM (Engine Control Module) thing, where because I've adjusted how I drive at low speeds the ECM has to be reprogrammed. Not sure whether that is something that will happen automatically or if taking it to the dealer would be the best course here as well.
I basically want to know am I crazy or is there actually something wrong with my car? Seems like it could be a transmission issue, Turbo variable ratio issue, or Mass Airflow Sensor, but maybe it's completely normal. Comments from someone with the new 2022 or 2023 Turbo would be especially welcome. Thank you!!!

So here's the shortened version with what I hope are all the relevant details. My wife runs an equestrian business and partnered with a property owner nearby to us. The place was convenient to us in location and they did not have a trainer, mutually beneficial (or so we thought). Here's the legal set up, the boarding facility portion was ran by X, her mom, Y however is the actual property owner, owning the physical buildings, land, and all that. X wanted to be involved despite the fact that they know next to nothing about running a business or horses or really anything at all. This being said there was no physical contract written up, but there are many, many financial transaction records and long chains of text messages and agreements between the two. My wife started bringing in serious money to the place with her lesson program which ended up in more boarders coming in. Seeing the influx of money Y started paying for improvements to property to help the business along and even invested in a few horses. The arrangement ended up being that X will handle the boarding the facility to include doing chores and hiring out labor as necessary, my wife would split her revenue (not profit, revenue) 50/50 as payment for the boarding of the horses used for lessons, with additional payment for the horses that were owned by the barn. This partnership goes well until X goes off the rails and basically looses her mind and starts lying about my wife and her business partner to Y, a back and forth ensues and Y no longer trusts her daughter. Y then cuts X out of the business altogether to partner with my wife and her partner. Out of no where, Y goes back to believing Xs lies for whatever reason and tells my wife that she has 24 hours to move all horses and equipment off the property and puts up a gate, locks it and has a person posted at the entrance as security. Despite the fact that this "eviction" is illegal and a complete breach of contract my wife and her partner move all animals and equipment that they own off the property for the welfare of the animals. Throughout this partnership my wife and partner were trying to help out as much as possible and we're filling in for the care of the animals because X couldn't be trusted to do it right, we were also forced, on many occasions to come handle basic chores because X would randomly say that she can't do it and didn't schedule anyone. My wife also spent many, many hours training one of the barn owned horses with the assumption that her training the horse is improving it for use in her lesson program and to be used in shows, greatly improving the horses skills and abilities. So here's where we're at: my wife had communicated with X and Y that she was going to be running summer camps and had provided estimates of the additional income that would be brought in for June, July, and August. They knew that the camps were going to be happening and were preparing for them, they knew that my wife had collected over 7k in deposits. So when my wife was forced off the property I told her not to pay a dime of the May rent because the contract was breached. Again, while there was no formally written contract there are texts and emails of this information and a sort of informal contract and agreement was set in place. They are, of course, demanding payment for May. Due to the breach of contract, loss of money and actual damages: paying back the deposits after materials and items for the camps were already purchased in addition to obvious loss of income from her regular lesson program and the camp, is there any legal grounds for Y to actually come after her? The partnership was with X, who had an established LLC on the property, the contributions that Y made were essentially for the benefit of Xs business, but X is...to put it lightly, a spoiled and lazy person who's never had to actually work at all in her life. Our current retort is to send them a bill for the refund of the camp deposits (about double the lesson revenue), and include training costs for the horse and costs for us having to go to the property to work to do Xs work when she wouldn't. I do realize that we could have legally told her to pound sand and continue business as usual until an eviction notice came in, but with the welfare of the animals on the line and them adding physical barriers to the property it seemed way more important to remove the horses and put equipment. We don't have money for a lawyer, but they are filthy rich and obviously do. We are basically just going to cut our (massive) losses and move on with life, however, they are threatening legal action. We aren't going to pay, not this early in the game because we know that getting that money back will be basically impossible, but do we have standing to refuse to pay them because they breached the contract and agreement?

2023.06.10 02:16 electhell Madden 24 Franchise Genuinely Improved
There will always be sad people who don't want to actually like Madden and there have been very genuine reason to hate it in the past but franchise may be a genuinely good this time around for 24.
I have played the beta for a while now and thought I would list some additions I've noticed in the game
-Unique coaching tress: Every coordinator has scheme specific upgrades trees that are in unique combos making feel even more important to find a coordinator who's a good fit for your team.
-Xp and Regression sliders have even more customization: You can now pick exactly how much extra or less XP you earn at each age and position. You can also pick how bad regression affects players of a certain age and at a certain position allowing you to feel the short lifespans of RB and longer careers of QBs.
-Training Camp: Wk 1 of pre season allows you to go through mini games that earn your players skills points and offer extra snaps for your hidden dev rookies. It's a bit tedious but the mini games are challenging and very rewarding. You can also continue to do mini games with your focus trained players but I find it's not worth it and would just sim it.
-New Trading System: there is a slider that changes the difficulty of trading and putting it on Very Hard is very realistic. It's essentially impossible to trade for the number 1 pick without breaking the bank big time and the CPU seems to have a decent trade logic with some questionable offers at times. You can also put a package into the trade finder and it will show you if teams have any interest in you package. The trade block is quite a bit more organized to find players.
-Simulation Stats: The sims feel semi realistic and don't hold back rushing QBs anymore as Justin fields was a top 10 rushers for a few straight years in my sims. The right players always seem to be leading their categories and didn't see too many anomalies other than a weird Sterling Shepherd league leader in yards year. The playbooks don't seem to effect the teams but I did find that low ovr teams would make playoffs more often than they should. The sim also sims at a WAY faster rate.
-New Relocations: There are quite a few new cities to go to and new teams to pick from. The relocation is instant now instead of a whole season which is both good and bad imo. You also no longer have to be an owner to relocate which I find nice when I just wanna be a coach. You no longer get a jersey selection screen but are given an away, a home and an alt jersey to choose from most which are fine. You also get to have a home field advantage but they are not city specific and are often generic "gains more momentum" type of abilities.
-Updated News Feed: News feed looks cooler not really important but cool enough to worth noting
-Contracts Restructuring and Negotiations: You're able to negotiate with every player who needs a contract right away now instead of having to wait for a specific week and also 5th year option appear on this screen now instead of as a scenario which means owners can access them now as well. The contract restructuring is a bit lame imo as it's only a button push and you get no real say in how the money is actually divided out, but it does manage to free up cap so it's not totally useless. There is also slider for how much you want a players motivations to effect where they go.
-Player Customization: This was a bit buggy in the beta but from what I could the gear was quite customizable. It seemed like you were able to equip unique equipment that you unlock for your avatar kinda like The Yard. This means special mouth pieces and back plates with designs on them. It's hard to say if this will actually be the case as it was a hard feature to use without it crashing my system. Hopefully it's fixed but it shows potential.
-Off season: There are sliders to change how many player you can negotiate with in free agency at each stage but other than that the off season remains largely untouched.
Drafting and Scouting: This is exactly the same as last year but there is slider to change how strong or weak specific positions are in that years draft class.
Superstar Abilities: There are no new abilities in the game, but superstars can now have 3 abilities at 75, 85, and 90 ovr and XFac can have 4 abilities the last at 95 ovr. It's crazy the ability combos but also very fun to play with and against. WR can get acrobat which allows diving catches but I have yet to see it actually work. RBs can get goaline back which was in MUT last year and gets you better blocking within 5 yards of the goaline.
CPU difficulty: I play on all Madden simulation and am a very good player. The CPU torched me quite a bit as most of my games were shootouts and the great players really made a difference. It was a nice challenge that I wasn't used to.
Gameplay: This Madden offered some new tackle animations that are very cool but also make for some wonky plays. It's the right idea but a botched execution. LBs felt like they could actually make plays on the ball and corners were actually good a covering their zones even corner routes. I found that safeties drifted according to coverage and were helpful over the top rather than being so stiff. There's a few more drops than there should be and still some weird WCB animations when the ball is in the air but nothing that's galring worse than the past. The blocking is noticeably much better and every player on your team will try to find someone to block. The announcers are still mid and still some recycled commentary. Overall the gameplay is like a C to B range with a lot of cool additions but still some issues with how smooth every animation is.
Other Customization: play limits and cooldowns setting can now be specific to offense and defense
-Depth Chart auto reordering glitch was fixed
This is all I could think of but there may be more that I missed but this is everything that I've noticed while playing. If you're a big franchise guy and haven't bought the last few Madden I don't blame you at all, but this one seems worth it to me. I don't like EA as much as the next guy but they may have genuinely done something good here. Maybe wait a year for some of these features to get smoothed out but this is a Madden I will be recommending to franchise players who are tired of the same game every year. I'll have a hard time saying EA didn't at least try with this one.
-----A little update to this list that I have recently found is that the CPU takes full advantage of being able to relocate as 20 years in the future there are 9 different relocated teams

2023.06.10 02:01 MrKsoft 2D Run & Gun - How can I discourage players from just holding down the fire button all the time... without actually limiting ammo?
I have been agonizing over this for a few days and my brain hurts. I might have gotten to the point I am completely overthinking it. I'm looking for outside opinions about this design consideration to help bring me back to earth here.
This game I am working on is basically a 2D run and gun, Contra/Gunstar style, but with somewhat more open levels. The focus for each level (apart from getting to the end) is score attack - players coming back to retry each level for better score/rank, Sonic Adventure 2's ranks come to mind.
However, as part of this gameplay, I want to discourage players from simply holding the fire button down all the time. This is what I end up doing in games like that, and it seems like if the player is almost always going to hold a button down all the time then even having it as a button is pointless anyway. On the other hand, I don't want to resort to actual limited ammo and/or a "last resort" melee weapon, which seems to be a common solution.
As a first attempt solution, I currently have implemented essentially a energy/heat bar for the weapon - after you stop firing for a moment (1.5 seconds right now) it recharges but only up to a threshold (currently 20% of max). Energy above that 20% can be restored by collectables or by defeating enemies. The intent of this is that you can move through the level faster and defeat more enemies if you continually engage with them, but still need to utilize movement options in order to only shoot them at opportune times - as opposed to just repeatedly shooting towards them with no regard to actually hitting the target. There will be a link/combo system tied to scoring to additionally keep players moving.
However, after thinking about it, I'm running into some potential flaws with this design. I added the "20% threshold" to make sure that players aren't completely unable to fight back. But I am concerned that this will end with people spending time getting bored waiting for the recharge if there are not good opportunities to otherwise gain energy above the threshold in a given moment. Bosses in particular are troubling me in that regard, as there would be less options to refill the energy, so it would turn into a game of "unload your shots and then wait for the tiny recharge, fire off a few shots, wait some more" without a way to refill via engaging the enemy. This would likely not be very fun.
Some options to deal with this, which seem to all have their own drawbacks:
- They could drop items periodically, but this may not always make sense depending on the kind of fight, or just feel forced. What comes to mind for me is a boss in Zelda: Wind Waker: if you run out of arrows, the boss suddenly sneezes some out of its nose. That always felt very unnatural to me and reminded me that I'm in a game and the omnipotent devs had to essentially get me un-stuck.
- Bosses could have "minions" but again, that's something that is not appropriate for every battle, and this opens a possibility that players could cheese/camp on them to infinitely boost their combo/score. Making them not count for score or combo would be a counter to that, but also weird as well, since it would be inconsistent with rest of the game (Why don't these enemies count when the exact same guys did before the boss arena?).
- The boss could perhaps "bleed out" energy when hit, but nothing else in the game would likely do this. In addition, there's the question of "how much to restore per shot?" - if it were a 1:1 restore of energy, that's basically infinite ammo since bosses are large targets. If it's less than 1:1, we are just delaying the "run out of energy" problem to a little later in the fight.
- I thought about just getting rid of the recharge limit and letting it go all the way to 100% if you stop shooting for a while. But I think in general players will just run their energy to zero and then have to deal with a considerably longer recharge time (even if we, say, doubled the recharge speed overall), which might be even LESS fun.
Another possibility, or something to even do in tandem with the above concept, is maybe regaining energy via a parry mechanic on enemy projectiles (like the bullet gets "absorbed" into energy). This has its own problems I've considered:
- Depending on precision required, it could be too difficult for players to pull off consistently enough to be useful in the middle of a fight, or too easy to the point that it makes ammo effectively unlimited.
- In situations where lots of projectiles are being used (later bosses), how often do we allow the player to parry? The parry has to have some kind of cooldown or animation delay, or players will just bash it repeatedly - but if there are lots of projectiles, they also need to be able to use it enough for it to actually get them through a series of attacks instead of, say, blocking the first shot and getting hit by the second due to cooldown/animation locking.
- Would need to determine how a parry reacts to non-bullet attacks that make less sense to absorb (melee, giant laser beams, etc)
- This, and the above "many projectiles" issue, could lead to a shield mechanic instead, where it then becomes a parry on applicable bullets if the timing is good. However this has its own problems in terms of possibly encouraging the player to constantly "turtle" - usually an energy cost would be associated with the shield to penalize that, but it becomes impossible due to the need for the move to be used as part of the energy restore method - it would become a circular dependency for the player.
I'm having trouble thinking of games that use a similar system as it seems they either go straight infinite ammo, straight limited ammo w/ melee attack as fallback, or have multiple weapons with a "pea shooter" type gun being the only infinite ammo weapon. I do not feel that multiple weapon types makes sense in my game (let alone any melee attacks), apart from maybe timed power ups, so I am struggling to find good examples to follow or build upon.
What are your thoughts? How would you tackle this issue? Are there additional concerns I may have missed?

Dungeons are forgettable since they are just the same thing in a different place
Everything is spaced out too far in order to sell horses and cosmetics to go with
No real way to team up and everyone ends up just doing their own thing and playing solo.
No group chats in town. Other players might as well be NPCs
You don't kill monsters any faster after leveling up due to the stupid scaling. Monster kills take almost the exact same amount of time whether you are new or experienced.
Your level/paragon is now just a cosmetic and doesn't mean anything due to automatic monster scaling
Color and design are a step backwards. D4 is gloomy and depressing colored and the monsters just look stupid and deflated

Roh added: "For the chipset, it is going to be a strategic collaboration with Qualcomm. The hardware will be provided by us. And the software, he added, will be provided by Google." Apple did in fact introduce Apple Vision Pro, their first spatial computer, at their WWDC23 event this week. Apple presented a new operating system for the headset branded VisionOS. The revolutionary spatial computer seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world, while allowing users to stay present and connected to others. Vision Pro creates an infinite canvas for apps that scales beyond the boundaries of a traditional display and introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by the most natural and intuitive inputs possible — a user’s eyes, hands, and voice. Featuring visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system, Vision Pro lets users interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space.
With Apple revealing their vision for spatial computers, the Samsung, Qualcomm and Google alliance have their work cut out for them if they want to match Apple's offering.
The alliance has hinted that they'll have their first device out within the next year. Last month, Sameer Samat, a vice president of product management at Google stated that Google is "excited about our new Android collaboration with Samsung Electronics in the domain of immersive XR. We will share more news later this year."
Business Korea reported yesterday that "Samsung also filed a trademark application for Galaxy Glasses with the Korean Intellectual Property Office in February.
Industry insiders are speculating that Samsung’s XR product will be shaped like glasses, rather than ski goggles like Apple’s Vision Pro."
While Samsung has filed numerous patent for an XR-style headset in the past, they've been escalating their patent filings aimed a AR Glasses for most of 2023. Here are just a few example patent filings: 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05. The patent figures below relate to their May 19, 2023 filing that appears to be a hybrid AR device with much thicker lenses than the other glasses oriented patents.

We may know later this year what the alliance's headset will look like or they may want to wait and reveal it a CES2023 in a splashier presentation. Will the alliance attempt to match the Apple Vision Pro's capabilities or aim much lower to compete with Meta's Quest 3. Their third option is to leap to a simplier glasses form factor like the patent figures present above,
though technnically, glasses may have to wait for 2nm or even 1nm processors are available in order to be of value in providing longer battery life, faster computation and thinner lenses.
According to Business Korea, "This is the first time the Android group has united for the MR-XR market. In the past, each Android group member company had launched some projects and then abandoned them. Google launched the Daydream Project in 2016 to develop a VR platform for smartphones, but gave it up in 2019. Samsung Electronics, along with Meta subsidiary Oculus, launched the Gear VR Headset in 2014, but has not released a related product since then.
With the Android group following Apple’s lead in developing MR devices, industry insiders are paying much attention to the growth potential of this market.
Market research firm Counterpoint Research expects global MR-XR headset shipments to grow from 18 million units in 2022 to 110 million in 2025 and 1 billion in 2030."
